Dasher Brass

I am considering getting a dasher barrel for a Savage target action. I do not like to fireform brass.

I was wondering if anyone will form Dasher brass if 6br brass is mailed to them with a reamer print for dimensions?

Also, what dies do people use?

I think DJ's will prep the brass, false shoulder and all for ready to load and fireform brass. Another option is a hornady Hydro die. Harrell's has a FL sizer, they are great and the price is very reasonable, redding and forster make one as well. Below is a link to Sinclairs list of dasher dies

Dasher brass is a piece of cake to form.

If you like bushing dies, check out the ones made by John Whidden. I think they're better built than my Redding and cost less.

I would not want my brass fired in someone chamber. If you don't like fireforming go with a 6BR.

I am not asking someone to fire my brass, I am looking for someone to make it for me based on my reamer so I don't have to loose barrel life making brass.

Thanks for the pms, I am considering the replies. I am glad I have options.

Thanks guys.

another way to go is pick up a used barrel and have it chambered. use it to form your brass then switch barrels.

Do a search, several people prep BRX and Dasher brass for you. I looked at the post last night.

brass fired in YOUR chamber is preferred as there will be some differences if fired in another one even if cut with your reamer. ff with the cream of wheat technique doesn't wear any of your barrel. since you use pistol powder and in the case of the dasher, a magnum small pistol primer and no bullet, the cost will be very much lower than having to pay someone to ff with bullets/powder/primer. you can usually get 95+ % ff cases with the cow technique. i insert my barrel into a large bale of fireretardent attic insulation and WHHHUUMMMPPP. this is the ultimate suppressor, and i can do it in my shop and in dead winter.

I tried the cow deal they came up short and the shoulder was not completely formed, maybe i missed something......... jim

had the same problem, so i gradually increased the pistol powder until the shoulder angle was just about as sharp as full charge with bullet. measured headspace and was same as full charge/bullet. use the false shoulder and feel a good snug fit in chamber, but occ will have to cow one a second time. if the shoulder is not sharp, but headspace is as a full charge case, i'll use it as is and it comes out prefect.

I use Universal Clays or Unique with no cream of wheat or bullet..!! you just gota get the charge rite and they come out perfect,,,,or just load em with bullets and jam em hard into the lands,,,,Roger

This is the qaundry I get a confused chuckle out of:

A rule of thumb is to "Not" use brass from someone elses chamber if your after accuracy, dependability, etc..

On the other hand, it is a common & accepted practice to have a dedicated fireforming barrel to fireform brass...

Is this not the same thing? I think so. Sure the differences between ream #1 and ream #2 that was used to do two different chambers can be or is apparent/obvious.... But even if it is the same ream used by the same smith, its still not the dimensionally same chamber. Too many varibles can cause differences..

Therefore the best way to fireform brass to your chamber is to use/shoot from your chamber. I have done both; load some cheap bullets up and go pull the trigger or the COW method.

My two cents, eh?..

You can thank me for that again Dingus!

What kind of blow length do you guys get with the cow method? Fire forming in a old barrel gives me 1.550-1.552 with the new brass...... jim
