Dark Corner Benchrest Shooting Assn. - Piedmont Gun Club - 600 Yard IBS Match

Happy New Year to All !!!

I hope the New Year is good to all of us! Please join us for a new IBS 600 Yard competition at the Piedmont Gun Club in Rutherfordton starting this coming Saturday January 2nd. The first four matches are going to be hosted by the Dark Corner Benchrest Shooting Association. The "Dark Corner" refers to our local history and geography. The Dark Corner is a somewhat undefined geographic region mostly in the Upstate of South Carolina, centered around the Glassy and Hogback Mountain areas. It does however go beyond these mountains. The area in and around Glassy and Hogback Mountains are considered within the “Dark Corner”. Please see the link for additional geographic and historical information of this beautiful area. http://squireofdarkcorner.com/

And yes, it is still possible to find stills in the Dark Corner, and some of their special products too!!! There are several legal distilleries nearby and vineyards too. All within about a one hours drive from the Piedmont Range.

Columbus and Rutherfordton, in North Carolina, are the closest towns to the Piedmont Range. Also nearby are Brevard, and Hendersonville, and just to our south in South Carolina is Spartanburg. All are within a 60 minute ride to the club. All of these towns have numerous overnight accommodations and restaurants.

I hope you can attend some of our matches and you shoot your best scores ever!

I am looking forward to seeing you.

Kind Regards, High Scores and Small Groups !!!

Paul Hammer

The following is a message from Tommy Williams at the Piedmont Gun Club: IBS Membership is necessary to compete in the Piedmont Matches.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

I hope everyone is having a great holiday season and had Santa bring you some bullets and powder for Christmas to shoot this coming season in 2016.

We will have 9 IBS 600 yard matches this year at Piedmont, 4 matches under the name of Dark Corner BSA, and 5 matches under Piedmont, all will be IBS points matches.

Exactly! That way if I really stunk up the place I had plausible deniability. I think I was 7th LG And 5th the HG. Respectable for my second registered match.

Nice match with a lot of tough shooters.

Huge attendance, great shooters, special shout out for the Lt gun winner Chad Jenkins. Awesome shooting Chad!!!

I was looking at HG, my bad he and Sam Hall shared first spot in Lt Gun. The creme rises to the top!

Thanks for all of y’all’s attendance yesterday. I hope you enjoyed the first Dark Corner Benchrest Shooters Association match. The competition was tough, and the fellowship was great. Looking forward to seeing you at the next match in February. If you can make it to one of our monthly Groundhog Shoots at the Polk County Gun Club, you are invited. The competition is just as tough and the little groundhog target is challenging. I am going to submit a short article to place on accuratehooter.com for this first IBS match of 2016. Thank you again for being a part of the match !!!

Bart welcome to longe range it all about R an D enjoy the pain it takes to be competitive that is the fun part trying to figure it out.
Stan
I had the honor of shooting on the bench beside Bart. He is already competitive, he "cleaned my plow". We had several new shooters yesterday and we welcome all of them. It was cold but I think most of us had a great time. There is some tough competition here. This stuff can be addictive.

Everyone made us feel welcome yesterday, we're part of that "new shooter" group. Of all the local matches ive been to, piedmont continues be the best. Lots of great shooters, and very well ran! Bart, it looks like you dont have too much to figure out.

Bart,
I assume that you did not borrow a rifle for this match! What did you end up building for LR shooting? A post/picture would
be appreciated and some information on loads, etc. Will the 50 cal. be next???

Larry,

It was a honor and pleasure shooting with you this weekend! Thanks for the kind words. I've still got a long way to go to figure out this long range stuff!

Bart

Congratulations to Chad Jenkins for his Win and Outstanding performance!

Also great shooting to Sam Hall (as usual!), Paul Isenhor and Mike Hanes! All are incredible competitors!

I can't forget my Facebook buddy and new shooter David Patton for an outstanding start to 2016!

Bart

For better clarification, especially for new shooters, IBS membership is not required to participate in the matches at Piedmont. IBS membership is required for you to earn IBS points in the match. We encourage all who are interested to come and shoot with us. Long range shooting is a challenge in itself. We have many who bring hunting type rifles to the matches who do quite well. Hope to see y'all in February.

Hi Joe,

No borrowed rifle this time. I was shooting a Bat DS with a prototype Scarbrough carbon fiber stock, Kreiger barrel with tuner. It's chambered for a 6 Dasher and Jewell trigger with a Valdada 36 power scope. I was shooting a 33.84 of Varget and my Bart's 105 gr Infinity Boattails. We should probably be checking with Chad, Sam, Paul and Mike to see what they were shooting! Here's a picture of the rig! I've got another on the way as well as a PRT LOWBOY!

Bart
