Dan Dowling Gun:

A friend of mine traded a Rem. 25/06 straight across for a Dan D. 22/250 IMP Bench Rifle. It has a McMillan bench stock on it and the typical Dowling swirled barrel on it. Does anyone know what his favorites were on barrels were? No marking for the brand of barrel. Thanks.

I too have a Dan Dowling worked rifle!
A Winchester Heavy Varmint rifle in 22-250 that Dan worked on in the early 1980's.
He set it up so that I could switch barrels.
After his fine handy work it is very accurate!
I had two barrels made, each a different profile and length with his signature swirl pattern.
I recall at the time that I could pick from two barrel makers.
I still have the paperwork from him... somewhere.
I will take a look and report back.
Maybe even post a picture for those not familiar with his barrel pattern.

I have a few Dowling take-off's and I believe they were advertised as Hart Barrels.

I have several of his rifles and all of mine are Hart barrels. During the 90's and early 2000 he used Hart and Schneider barrels. Hope this helps.

I owned a half dozen rifles built by Dan. He used Hart barrels on the Waldogs, and Schneider on the 6MM.
