D166 for the AK

Grimstod

Machinist, Designer, and Shooter.
Why does Lapua list the D166 bullet which is a 200gr bullet that is pretty long, for the 7.62x39? Seams like the bullet would be to long to fit in the mag if it was loaded for the cantilure.

Howdy Grim , I shoot 190 sierra matchkings out of my 1/8 twist 7.62 x 39 .
Not much diff between the 300 blackout . Yeh mine is a bolt gun.

Hay Gmac. I know its been a while but I got another position at work as a designer and its kept me away form my guns :-[

Anyway so that was a bolt action gun? See I just don't see how the D166 that is a 200gr bullet could be loaded short enough to fit in the magazine of a AK. A bolt action rifle I am sure will work ok. As you probably know with semi automatics they have to be loaded pretty short to fit in the magazine and cycle right.

I have a bolt gun in 1 in10 twist, what do you guys think would be the heaviest bullets I could shoot . I am looking for loads for heavier than 150 gr bullets.

I really don't know. MV, bullet length, weight, BC and twist rate are the factors involved with limiting that. If you know those then you can just start playing with different values on Berger twist rate calculator. Hope that helps.

Can anyone tell me how long the D166 200gr bullet is? Also how far back does the cantilure on the bullet lay from the tip?
