If you have a CZ527 - please read this!
Alright, for those of you who have read my posts you know I like CZ's - I have 2 and the second most accurate factory gun I have is a CZ 527 in .223. But beware!
Last weekend my son and I were at the farm burning off a few brush piles that needed to be gone before any rabits decided to make them nurseries. While napping in the sun we saw a groundhog and I decided that the first whistle pig of the season was due. I loaded and put on the safety, applied the "set" trigger, and once I was almost on the hog, released the safety and the gun went off. Yes, you read that correctly, the gun went off when the safety was released. This was a gun that I was happy with the trigger out of the box and never adjusted.
My 16 year olds comment was "good thing that was pointed in a safe direction - I guess that is why you tell me never to trust a safety". Man was he right.
I unloaded the gun and while waiting for the fire to burn down played with the gun and found I could make it go off with the set trigger on and removing the safety 50% of the time. I decided to do nothing more until I had it home and the instructions in fromt of me. I cleaned the trigger with lighter fluid and there was no change. I then increased the pull weight of the set trigger so that you had to work the safety 5 times to get it to go off when it shouldn't.
My lesson - never ever trust the set trigger, safety combination on these guns. From now on, if I need to have the safety on, the set trigger will not be used, and if I apply the set trigger and then the safety, I will remove the "set" prior to removing the safety.
If you have one of these guns - please be very careful. We are all safe (even the groundhog)because follow the safety rules - you need to be aware of this weekness.
