cz457 barrels

Hi been on here a long time just dont post much.
well the cz bug has bit very hard and I would like a premium barrell but dont think Im young enough to get on a waiting list.
so best thing I have found is an l3i barrel .
my question is has anyone here had this experience? You tube is fun but would rather hear it from the horses mouth. Petes pillars has one but it doesnt shoot anybetter than my stock barrels according to you tube. Guess im looking for one of those hummers. Any help would be appreciated ,the l3i isnt exactly cheap but they are in stock.

How many ammo brands and sub varieties have you tried? Sounds like you know this but rimfire ar super finiky on ammo... even from lot to lot. I have had several guns and bbls myself and have cut probably a dozen other barrels beyond my own. As important as the barrel/chamber is I would say spending time to find "hummer" amml is probably more important.
I shoot with the owner of L3i, Leon Weatherby, quite a bit and have nothing bad to say about his barrels and hopefully soon to be complete rifles (stinger). He is a great guy and he actually stepped up this last season and runs PRS rimfire for the midwest region. I would say he is geared more into PRS rifles than target rifles but we all want accuracy.

I dont know what chamber he runs nor do I know the blanks he uses. I have seen his personal bolt guns shoot very well but probably no better nor worse than the other 50-100 guys that run vudo, rimx, custom barreled CZ's in my region. In every case its probably as much about finging the ammo your gun likes and building a rifle that is built just like centerfire. What I mean by this is bedding, good stock or chassis, optics and mounts, triggers, balance and making everything as bomb proof as possible.
I have seen many factory CZ's and Tikkas that shoot very well, every bit as good as customs in some cases. Again ammo is the key and finding it is the real problem as we have been in short supply for more than a year now on SK, Lapua and RWS as well as Eley to a lesser extent.
IMO rimfires are harder to shoot accurately with consistency than centerfire. It just seems to take more focus. I shoot 10 shot groups and that makes it even harder.
If you have a chrony run it and pay attention to your "fliers" compared to velocity as again it may well be an ammo issue more so than a barrel issue, not that it may not be the barrel.
Long read but I hope it helps and I hope you find that "hummer" bbl.

I have a buddy who just got one. It is shooting very well. I have two Liljas and it is shooting as good as the Liljas. In fact he just shot a 1/2" 5 shot group at 100 yards with it in MDT XRS chassis/ Zeiss scope.

Just call Shilen and get a Ratchet Supermatch on the way to you, in your chosen contour. Have a GOOD RIMFIRE smith...e.g. Mark Penrod, among a few others.. install it and chamber with a match-ish reamer.

Prepare to be pleased.
They are currently not being made, unknown when available again, but assume a year+ wait.

Call Muller and order a blank and have it gunsmith fitted. As I understand they have little wait time and are fairly current at this time.

You can get close to a gunsmith fitted barrel with a Lilja at a cheaper price.

One of my buddies received his L3i barrel this week for his CZ 457. He shot it for the first time today off a bench using a bipod and rear bag. His attached target shows 5 shot groups at 50 & 100 yards with Center X, Eley Match, and Lapua Long Range. All did very well at 50 yards. The Lapua Long Range produced the best 100 yard groups. The CCI SV and Wolf Match Extra were only shot at 50 yards.

Lilja is producing a run of rimfire barrels now, so you would need to call and get put on the next list.
They have a cutoff date for taking orders.
Good thing is they chamber it so you don't have to wait for a barrel blank and then send
it off to a smith to chamber it.
Call and ask about how long for before the next run of CZ 457 barrels.

What do you have now? (MTR, Varmint)
Have you done anything to it? (trigger, stock, chassis)
A lot of the factory barrels shoot great if you find the right ammo and lot #.

I have a few Lilja's and have been around quite a few of them also. They all are shooters. The wait is usually not long. Give them a call.
