Cz 557 guns

looking for anyone that’s had experience with the cz 557 in their short action versions. Specifically rebarreling it in 6mm or 6.5 creedmoor. Thanks

I have a 550 Euro Varmint in .308. Same action as the 557 but in a laminate Monte Carlo style stock. If you’re planning on rebarreling, I guess you’d only be concerned with the action/stock?

Don’t know if any issues with them. They are basically a short action R700, but not a clone action in dimensions. Stock trigger is pretty outstanding and very adjustable. I know some companies make chassis options as well. For a good price, I wouldn’t hesitate

I don’t believe this is correct. The CZ 550 is a control feed Mauser type action while a 557 is a push feed action like a Rem 700.

A few years ago I hesitated because the price was a little high and missed out on a beautiful .308 Euro Varmint. It would went nicely with my 22-250 Varmint Kevlar 550 and .243 American 550.

The 550 Euro Varmint or 550 Varmint Laminate uses the same push feed action as the 557. Not sure why they didn’t call it a 557, but they didn’t. You are correct that most all other 550 models are of the CRF Mauser variety.

also the CZ mags are 2.87” internal length, since I didn’t mention before.

I also completely forgot about one issue that may need resolved. The magazines may need slight modification in the front for reliable feeding. I did lower the front face of the magazine so that the top edge is slightly below the feed ramp. Out of the box it was too high. 5min with a barrel sander on a Dremel. In my case, only the 5rd magazine needed modifying.

I know enough about CZ to never say never, but I just did a bunch of searches and I can’t find any other reference to a push feed 550. The 550 that remember being marketed as a .308 Euro Varmint 10ish years ago came in a walnut stock. I did find reference to a 550 Varmint Laminate that came in .308, but it was also listed as having a Mauser style claw extractor in sales literature.

I would truly be interested if you know of more info to be found on this push feed 550. Pics of yours would be cool too! Here’s a link to the best pic I could find of a 550 Varmint laminate online and it appears to be a control feed bolt to me. https://www.sportsmansoutdoorsupers...inate-308-win-used-trade-in-bolt-action-rifle

Now I had to know for certain, so after digging it out of the vault, I was incorrect. It is indeed the 557 version of the link you just sent. It is the exact same model, but with the push feed action and a 25moa EGW rail. Also the barrel is threaded. Apologies for any confusion.

Chris
