CZ 527

I have a naive question about the CZ 527. I am familiar with Remington and Cooper but have never worked with the CZ 527. My question is whether there is any difference in a CZ 527 .223 and the .221 other than the clip? The question stems from the known difference in the Rem 700 between the .223 and the .221.

Thanks in advance,
pdog

I believe the .221 & .222 have a slightly shorter magazine well when compared to the .223 & .204 versions. A quick check at CZ-USA would confirm this.

Call CZ in Kansas City, MO and ask. They're pretty to get a hold of and they're very helpful too.

HTH,

CZ uses the same magazine with a different size plastic spacer at the rear for the 223, 221 Fireball, 22 Hornet, and 17 Hornady Hornet. The last two magazines are identical. I'm not familiar with the 204 Ruger magazine, but surmise it is the same as the 223. I just posted regarding the modification of the 17 Hornet magazine, see post in this same section. As for other differences between the CZ and the 700, the CZ has a magazine that is not flush with the bottom of the rifle, a trait that some people do not desire. However you do have the advantage of having a detachable magazine, that being; having several mags loaded up for a quick reload. I think the CZ has a better trigger with the set trigger option than the 700. Then there is the 700 feature, a faster twist barrel, than the CZ. I own both and appreciate each for what they are.

I do know that a 223 cartridge will NOT fit in a 204 magazine without some modifications. The lips of the magazine are slightly tighter on the 204 in the neck area. However a dremel tool could fix this in about 30 seconds. One other thing that is different from rem. is the safety is backwards. This has taken me some time to get used to. Forward is safe back is fire. completely opposite from rem. But every cz ive owned out shot my rems. out of the box. One word of caution is if you remove the barreled action from the stock on the cz be sure your floor plate and magazine well fit all the way back into the receiver when you put it back together or your groups will look like a shotgun blast.

Thanks for the help. So If I am understanding correctly there is no difference between a 527 .204 and a 527 .221 concerning the bolt face, ejector, or clip well. The only difference is the clip itself?

If you really want to speak to an expert on the CZ 527. Call James Calhoon at 406-395-4079

Yes the bolt face and mag well is the same for the 223, 204, and 221. Only difference is the magazine itself.
