CZ 527 Heavy bbl 204 ruger

I don't own one in a 204, but I've done a lot of reading and research on this rifle, most people are getting sub moa and some sub half moa and they generally love them, I do have this rifle in 17 hornet and I believe it's the best value for the money out there, very well-built gun

I have a C-Z .204 Varmint, one of those (discontinued) Kevlar stock models. As accurate as any OTC rifle I've owned, including a Cooper chambered the same. The newer "Euro-Varmints" imported here have a little longer barrels - a good thing imo as it's worth a few more fps over the previous 24s - but the gun's still lighter and more "carry-able" than that FV Savage (have one).
The single-set trigger is definitely an asset, but some don't like C-Z's safety (only once so far have I had a hunting situation where the fraction of a second it takes to flip off any safety - whether forward or "backward" operating - might have made a difference on a running coyote that only appeared for a second or so; a moot problem if one hunts mostly "stationary" game such as woodchucks).
For some reason, the Varmint model 527 can sometimes be cheaper than the American. I recently ran across that, when the .22 Hornet I bought was 50 bucks more than the .204 V next to it.
You could do much worse than buy a C-Z rifle. Not that there isn't the occasional dud, but at this time they're one of the best bangs for the buck out there.

I had a CZ Kevlar Varmint in 204 and it was a very nice rifle. Shoot sub 1/2 MOA, smooth operation and very nice trigger (I did adjust out the second stage). I second the thought on barrel length; too short to make the most of the 204 Ruger's velocity potential. I now shoot a 28" T/C Pro Hunter barrel and that thing blows up the varmints.

I have two CZ 527 varmints in .204 and one in .17 Rem. All very easily shoot sub MOA. Never had an issue with any of them and have fired thousands of rounds between them. I don't personally use the set trigger as adjusting the "regular" trigger is easy and they are some of the best factory triggers I've seen. I have no experience with the Savage, don't have anything against them, but have been so happy with CZ I haven't seen the need to stray.

I have a 223 for sale on the forum, only because I have an itch for something else. Very happy with the accuracy and quality. But, as some have noted, the backwards safety is not intuitive.

I hear people raggin on the CZ safety. Me? I never use the safety. Never. Waste of steel. My safety is between my ears. I never chanber a round until I am ready to shoot at something.. Over the years a lot of people have been killed or injured because "I thought the safety was on"..

I have two CZ 527 Varmint models, one in 17 Hornet the other is a 204 Ruger. I'm a huge Rem 700 fan but for the money, these little CZ 527's are one of the sweetest little factory guns I've ever owned. My only two gripes are, like many factory rifles, the comb is a little on the low side and if you use the CZ dovetail type rings you're a little more limited on ring selection. On my 17 Hornet I used Leupolds medium height rings that are specificly for the CZ's but with my 204 I used a pic rail from DIP Inc. with a set of low rings from Weaver to hold the Burris Vercity 4-20x50 and the comb was a little to low so I put a Boyds stock with an adj cheek piece on it. The only thing I've had a chance to shoot in my 204 is Hornady 32gr Superformance ammo and it's a solid .5 shooter.

Another thing I like about these CZ 527's is the trigger is outstanding and fully adjustable. I did away with the "set" feature, changed one of the little springs that cost all of $2 and it'll adjust down to about as light as you want it to go with zero creep/pretravel. I had mine as low as 6oz but with other family members shooting this gun as well thought that was maybe a little to light so I bumped it up to 10oz. Even without changing the spring you can get an honest 16oz trigger.

Top pick is my 17 Hornet the lower picture is my 204 before I added the adj cheek piece. I shoot both of them suppressed and it just adds to the fun.

Also,
If you are not consciously aware of, and thinking about how a safety functions on any given rifle, and expect to just rely on making the same kind of movement of a safety mechanism on any rifle you might ever use (whether it functions that way or not), you are just a danger to others. To me, this "issue" of how a CZ 527 safety works is a non-issue.

Funny. I don't disagree and had the same opinion until I had one. I often click the safety on when sitting on the bench for prairie dogs because the trigger is so light when set. I found it annoying that I had to think about it because American rifles are opposite.

Hi I dont have a cz or sav. My buddy has a sav. I shoot a TC venture 204 it's 1@10. I love my rifle. My buddy's is a tack driver in Savage. U can see the impact of bullet no kick.
