CZ 457 rimfire's

Has anyone purchased the new CZ 457's in mag, 17 or 22? My local told me it would be a year for them to get one. MTR in 22LR looks interesting.

I Bought one in 457 American 22 mag from gunbroker. sent a check. SO maybe have it end of next week or maybe the week after. As the mail is screwed up I sent the check priority mail and it went to the state where it was going then went two states away and is now back in route to go back where it came from. Like WTF. so they still have not got my check yet. So I don't know if they can clear it right away or have to wait a few days then shipping to my dealer. I am excited to get it.

Hacker If I may ask What did u have to pay for the MTR? thanks

$700 OTD. I believe I paid probably $50-$75 more than I would if I waited till summer to buy one. But I guess there's a price to pay to be one of the first to get one.

Haven't even shot it yet though :(

The American and varmit have showed up in stock at my supplier in 22lr. If anybody is looking for one of these, send me a P.M.

I think there is a market for a high Grade 22 Sporter , but that 457 Royal is one strange looking Rifle . That looooong Stock and that super short Barrel beyond the Stock Tip are enough to discourage a lot of Traditional Style buyers . Engraving the Royal Logo into the Stock is also a poor choice IMO .

Got mine today.American in .17.Now to add glass.Nothing large as this is a walking gun.
u never have enough power in a scope as long as it goes down to 4 or 5 :) good luck
I have been carrying the Weaver GS 5x20x50 with the varmint EBX retical and the Leupold 4.5x14x40 fine duplex.and they both work great in the field, like the 50mm to allow more light into the scope

That MTR is a good looking rifle. The trigger guard is certainly a nice improvement too.
Matt

I'm torn between the 457 MTR & American. I've got several match grade repeaters - converted 40Xs & V-22s - but they're heavy, with all but one weighing in at over 14lbs. So why am I trying to figure out whether to the the American sporter or the heavier MTR? The MTR is the only one I've read about that has the tighter match chamber, while the American would have the standard sporting chamber. Have gotten well & truly spoiled by the accuracy of my 40X & XB with their custom Benchmark & Krieger bbls, and same goes for the V-22s with their Krieger, Bartlein, & ACE cut-rifled bbls. Maybe I'm over-thinking this, as a 457 American would probably be plenty accurate enough to satisfy me - but I'm pretty darned sure the average MTR would out-shoot the average American. Looking forward to hearing from members here who've put their money down on either of these rifles; really want to hear how both models shoot with good ammo!

Build a sporter 40X and don't look back

I have a V-22 "sporter" - sort of. It's got an 18" Ranch contour bbl, which is only .625" at the muzzle. I put it in a Manners EH2, and mounted an Athlon Midas TAC 6-24x50 on its 30 MOA scope rail. It weighs 8.75lbs, which is about as light as you can get with one of these substantial actions. CZ lists the 457 American's weight at 6.17lbs w/o a scope, and it'll balance quite a bit more nicely than the action-heavy V-22 Ranch.

I do enjoy shooting with the Midas TAC. The glass is plenty good enough to suit me, even though all my other 22RF repeaters have Athlon Cronus scopes, and my comp Big Horn rifles have Kahles K624Is on them. The turret knobs' clicks are very distinct, and though I haven't run a tall target/box tracking test on it yet, it seems to track very well. It also focuses down to 10yds, which is handy for a 22RF. Going to order a few more of them, just not sure whether to stick with the original reticle (APRS2), or go with the new one (APRS3), which has the floating dot & tree. And it has a true zero stop - what's not to like?
