CZ 457 17 hmr recommended bore guide?

Does anyone have a recommendation on the best bore guide for this rifle? I did some internet searching and all I found were the types that aren't completely enclosed and don't enter the chamber and then one other from RVB that is an aluminum shaft that enters the chamber.

Are there any others to look at?

I use the RVB one on my Savage 93r17, works well, can't say for a CZ. Could use a patch worm pull thru if needed or desired.

I believe when I searched for a bore guide for my 457 I was told in RF, the chambers were too small to allow a machined plastic bore guide to go into the chamber. Not enough wall thickness/durability to the plastic after the hole was machined for the rod to go through. I am using a Bore Tech on my 457 Varmint .17HMR and it does go up to the breach face.

I absolutely do not recommend using a pull through method on any .17HMR or .17WSM. Both rounds produce heavy fouling in the bore, a lot of which is carbon. Even using a good rod with patches, a bronze brush, and C4 carbon cleaner, I have to work pretty hard to get the bore to produce a clean patch. I love shooting my HMR, but hate cleaning it.

Same here!!!

I used to have a Savage 17 and dealt with cleaning it by not cleaning it! I'm sure the bore was in absolutely horrible shape, but it still shot lights out. Now on my really nice CZ, I have that cleaning "guilt" where I need to clean it every 30 to 50 rounds.

I had been cleaning it going in from the muzzle being extremely careful to keep the rod as straight as possible and not touch the crown when going in or out, but that is way too stressful and will eventually lead to damaging it.

I guess I'll just pick one of the available options and see how it works

I don't know about your Savage, but IME, both of my CZ .17's accuracy dropped off noticeably after about 30 rounds. This was noted on group shooting from the bench. The rifle I hunted with was still 'minute of Prairie Dog' after a lot more shots than 30. I also know that several guys shooting large volumes of .17 before cleaning use a smaller patch in the first couple of pushes to avoid bending a rod when cleaning theirs. Tiny little bore with a bunch of powder being burnt when you shoot one of these. Fouling is much more extreme than a .22lr.

Well, by lights out I mean knocking squirrels out of trees with head shots at an avg of 50 yards, but I don't remember what our average first round hit rate was haha. I never shot that gun from a bench. It was a lug it around the woods and truck beater gun.

My CZ is new as of this year and I've only shot from the bench. It will do 0.75" at 100 very consistently and many times a lot better. I haven't noticed any big drop in accuracy after 30 rounds yet, but I think I usually only shoot 20-35.

Just got my Lucas bore guide a couple of days ago for another action type. Very nice workmanship.

I know this is an old thread but FYI....I contacted Mike Lucas on 3/12/2023 about a bore guide for my CZ 457 17 HMR and got this response...
"Thanks for the inquiry. But do to our heavy work load with center fire bore guides i am unable to make for Rim Fire rifles at this time."

I got the Possum Hollow too, they seem to work well, and are very affordable. Midway USA has them and has a link to the chart which shows which guide to get for which gun.
