cycling problem, Sig Mosqito

looking for 22lr ammo advice, a few years ago i aquired a sig mosquito 22lr pistol, my kids enjoyed shooting it. It came with specific ammo listing for cci hv ammo only. im interested in shooting it again and found that rem, fed, winch, that I had on hand wont cycle this action, and before purchacing any more ammo would like some reccomendations before selling this at a loss.
Thanks.

I went through the same experience with a mosquito, I tried all of the different types of ammo and several different recoil springs with each of the different ammo types, my discoveries were that the factory was right, the only thing it would shoot was the CCI's they recommended. My daughters didn't care for shooting it so I sold it, yes, at a loss

I thought I was in the market for a little pistol like that a year or so ago. I researched reviews on the ones I was interested in and found all of them had feeding problems, I chose not to buy one. With .22 ammo being hard to get I did not want a handgun that will only feed 1 or 2 types of ammo.

My Ruger Mark III functions well with anything that I stuff in the magazine. It does seem that many .22 LR semi-auto's need CCI mini-mag to work well.

I also have a Mosquito and yes, it is very finicky about what ammo it likes to eat. CCI High Velocity is the good stuff but it will also cycle 22 Blazer (which is made by CCI but less expensive). If you bought yours new, it came with two different recoil springs. The heavier one is for high velocity ammo. I have tried the lighter spring with standard 22 loads without much success.

My Mosquito hasn't been that finicky, but I got the threaded barrel and shoot it with standard velocity ammo, the weaker spring and a suppressor most of the time. The suppressor probably modifies the pressure curve a bit, but a suppressor is not a cost effective solution to your problem. ::)

Do try the Blazer as recommended by chromatica, and 40 grain RN Winchester HV has also worked in mine.

A fair number of European designed or built .22 semi-autos don't seem to cycle American .22 ammo very well in th experiences I have had with several pistols. The problems I had with my pistols were not in feeding, but being too tight for the chambers just enough to cause problems in rapid bolt closure and in extraction. If you hold your bolt open and place a round into the chamber, it should push in all the pay with NO force - and should fall out on its own or with VERY LITTLE removal force when barrel is pointed skyward. If it does not come out or insert easily, this will often be a potential source of the feeding or extraction problems. If you are having this problem, the pistol ammo made by Lapua, regardless of variety, likely won't have any problems, nor will most of the American ammo DESIGNED for semi-autos such as Federal Auto Match. If the tight chamber persists with any of those, a quick trip to the gunsmith for a chamber hone and/or polish will likely the problem. If you get a cheap pistol cleaning rod, screw on a nylon brush, wrap the brush with a cleaning patch smeared with jewelers rouge (buy the rouge anywhere dremel tool supplies are sold) and insert into muzzle of barrel VERY carefully so as not to scratch the crown. Continue to insert until the brush is inside the chamber area, then turn the rod around 75 revolutions by hand or (as I do), cut off the handle of the cleaning rod and chuck it into a power drill. Spin for 30 seconds or so at slow speed, remove rod, clean barrel and chamber thoroughly then check to see if ammo fits chamber better. If not, repeat. The rouge will not remove metal - but will "lay down" enough of the rough surface that feeding will be improved.

I have had a Mosquito for a few years. Around here we refer to em as the Jamo-Matic. I have done about everything you can think of to get it to cycle, including everything mentioned above cept a suppressor. . The thing that helps the most is a lot of lube. Montana Gun Grease really helps.. as well as a healthy dose of M-Pro 7 gun oil. I m now running the Federal 40 grains in the blue box with great success. If I start getting jams I clean it and re-oil, or sometimes just re-oil.

Since CCI Mini Mags are scarce, I tried all kinds of ammo including Auto Match.. I have heard that the biggest problem is that Europeans use a tighter chamber than US manufacterers. These days I have pretty much retired the Mosquito, as I can't even sell it and now use my S&W Mod 63 22 kit gun..

It really burns me that a company like SIG rides their reputation an sells a POS like the Mosquito..
