cv 223 527 varmint

carl1575

I am still in the car business after 53 years
dose any one have any experience with the CZ 527 24 inch 1-9 barrel. I have a carbine 762/39 I like a lot and a 527 American in 1/12 that shoots better than I can. I have a bunch of sierra 69 gr. HPBT match that need to be shot up,there left over from my AR days, I have owned 6 of them in the last 25 years and never really liked any one of them, ugly, heavy I am 74 there just not me. I need some help making up my mind, love the look of the wallnut varmint but the varmint Kevlar is kind of cool in its own way (HELP) Carl f in Yakima

I have the sporter model with the lighter barrel. Actually it started as a .204 Ruger and I rebarreled to .223 with #3 contour. I like the lighter weight as I walk (a lot) yet it still puts them where I need them out to 600-700 yards shooting from sticks. It is my defacto 'Tactical' rifle for those matches. I like the look of the Kevlar but can not justify the weight myself.

I have the 223 varmint ks; the older version with the hs precision stock. I REALLY like the stock on it. It has a nice palm swell, the foreend is squared off which makes it nice to shoot off a rest, and being it is kevlar, its nice and light. The only problem is my 15 y.o. son has discovered it! I have a 527 varmint in 17 hornet in walnut that should touch ground here next week. I'll give you a compare/contrast if you haven't made up your mind by then.

I have one that shot .2s right out of the box. Shot a couple of groups in the low .1s at the bass pro indoor range tunnel.

Right out of the box isn't entirely truthful. I skim bedded it and torqued the screws to 40 lb with a wheeler fat wrench.

After a couple of years, I chopped it to 18" and the accuracy stayed. Lost about 70 fps, no big deal.

That being said, my friend bought one the same day, his always shot about 3/4" with either of us behind it. Not bad but never like mine. Who knows why.

I just got home with a 527 varmint with the laminate stock, 24" 1:9 barrel in .223rem. I hope it shoots as good as it looks and feels. The stock has a nice palm swell, nice wide forend, very beautiful to look at. I am just waiting on some 30mm scope rings for my weaver tactical scope and it is good to go.
