Cutting Edge Bullets

Well, the Harrisburg PA Outdoor show is Feb 1-9th. The good people from Cutting Edge are usually there.
I'll ask them your questions and post back.

Side note, they are located about 30 miles from me. If you stop in, they are very willing to talk with you, and are very knowledgable.
Great people to deal with!

I know Cutting Edge bullets are great quality. If they’re going with a solid bullet I think they’ll have a tough time getting good accuracy at sub sonic speeds. Maybe they’re trying to stirring the pot?
I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a slug similar to what the air gun guys are using now. Along with that we’ll also see barrels made specificity for them (different twist, bore dimensions, land profile, and chambering) Time will tell.

The only problem I for see and I see this with solid type bullets....is bullet size vs the actual bore/groove size of the barrel. If the bore/groove is looser/bigger than the solid and or the barrel has tight/loose spots you will have accuracy issues.

The solid bullet does not give (if you want to call it that) like a jacketed bullet does to a point with a lead core.

Barrels we are making for guys for the ELR type game we are stamping the bore and groove to the 4th decimal place so depending on what bullet maker they are going with they can give the bullet maker the actual dimensions of the barrel to try and help match bullet and barrel together.

Which brings us back to I feel there are advantages to the solid bullets but now you have another or should I say even more of a variable that you/we can be chasing to get the gun to shoot well.

One solid bullet maker and I had a very good conversation on this. They feel the bullet would be +.0001” to .0001x” bigger than actual groove size of the barrel to get them to shoot well or should I say better.

Not all solid bullets are made the same way either. I feel some designs are better than others.

I think they have already had enough success to announce that they are moving into production which is great as we are now 100% lead free in CA and there is nothing to shoot ground squirrels with except the 20 grain CCI at $10 for 50 rounds, they go straight for about 60 feet. WW makes a similar price tin bullet that's also ineffective. I think a standard .22LR is a 16 twist ? Wonder what these will take.

I built my 22 trainer with a lilja 1x9 twist to shoot the 60 gr Super snipers. Should handle these without any problem. Looking forward to trying these as well, I've been happy with their 277 gr for my 338 LM AI for past two years.

Ahhh, the land of fruits and nuts. I had no idea things had gotten that ridiculous.

So you really can’t even shoot a .22LR at ground squirrels anymore? I was stationed in central California when I was in the army back in the 80’s. I used to go out to shoot ground squirrels with my .22 for kicks when I could find a bit of spare time.

Sad what’s going on in that state. I feel for you normal guys that are still there...

You can shoot all you want, its just going to be lead free bullets on public land i believe

Hunting anything in CA is non lead, target shooting/clays/etc. you can shoot lead. As of the 1st of the year no more bobcat hunting by special decree of our whacko governor.

$15+ bucks for 50 great match rimfire bullets already nudges the cost to reload small centerfire rounds that will outperform them. Wonder about the economics to end user. And wind drift.

What kind of chamber pressure would it take to get a solid bullet to obturate enough to seal the bore? Would you have to use barrels with very shallow grooves to accomplish that? And if so, how short would bbl life be? I think I'm too old & too cheap to jump on this bandwagon....

Dennis, you and me both are wondering about bbl life.. i wonder if they would work in a octagon barrel
