cutting edge bullets

has anyone tried the machine turned cutting edge bullets? they have a couple vld type bullets in .243 and was wondering if anyone had tried them in am 8" twist 6BR. thanks

This is what they say: "This aggressive bullet is designed for single shot rifles or for individuals willing to shoot their rifles loading a single round of ammunition into the chamber and not into a magazine. A bore rider is incorporated in the design to ensure premature contact with the lands does not occur. COAL will be the brass trimmed to trim length + .974" bullet projection for recommended Seal Tite Band position. A minimum 1-8" barrel twist rate or faster is required. Actual BC of .560 was established using an Oehler 43 chronograph at 1000 yards.

Weight: 100 gr.
Caliber: 6MM(.243)
Count: 50
Price: $47.51"

Wonder what a "bore rider" is?? I assume the band is same as a pressure ring. At nearly a buck a pop, they better be guaranteed to win
every match.

One finds the term "bore rider" more commonly in the world of cast rifle bullets, where some designs have the nose of the bullet is slightly over land diameter, and the back of the bullet is at or slightly over groove diameter, to facilitate sealing of combustion gasses. I would think that using a design that has this feature would reduce the peak pressure required for the bullet to be engraved by the rifling. This is more of an issue with a solid.

well, it shouldn't be a problem for my rifle since it has a .236 bore with an 8"twist with about .115 FB. it sounds like it would be fun to try out, although expensive.

Bought some of the 100gr bullets to try im my 6mm SUPER LR and some of the 90gr bullets to try in my DASHER. Hopefully I will able to get some rounds loaded up and head to the range next week to 'test drive' these new bullets.

FINALLY!! With a break in the wet weather here in NW Montana we were finally able to make it to the range. Temperature in the mid 70s and wind was light with occassional gust.
I first tried the 100gr Cutting Edge bullets in my 6SLR. NO GO!! They were all over the place. My Bartlein barrel with the .120FB in the chamber and the 1-8tw apparently did not like these bullets. Tried 4 different loads, none were good.
Next, I shot the 90gr CUTTING EDGE in my DASHER. The DASHER has a 28" Broughton barrel with a .104FB and 1-8tw with a .271 chamber. This combo liked the 90gr bullets really well. This is by far the lowest spread I have ever had in any of my velocities. I guess it pays off to pick kernels of powder out of the tray when using the MX123. At first I thought the PVM-21 had blown a gasket!! :) If the wind were calm I think this would have been a nice group. (see attached photo).
Can't wait to work up more of these loads. The 32.75gr loads, and the 33.4gr loads were also good, but this, the 33.0gr load was the best.
Hunting season starts next week so attention will be off of paper punching for a while. Unless I have some of that first day luck.

Hi, I have CNC Machined some bullets matching the profile & weight of my standard projectial-copper-led bullet. Could B.C. be greater on a turned projectile???
John

I have tried some of the Lapua 100 gr. CEs in my 30BR. They seemed pretty promising in my early tests. I had to abandon the testing temporarily for various reasons, but I
intend to come back to these bullets. I got them for under 30.00 per box at either Graf's or Powder Valley I Ican't remember which.
