One of the things I love about the K&M Press Adapter and their window riser is that I can see the mandrel during expansion which makes it very easy to setup the expander die. I also have 21st century and Sinclair expander die and mandrels which I want to use at times. Has anyone cut a window into either one of those dies or cut the dies in half so that they can be inserted into the k&m window riser (its standard thread). 21st century video has a die with the cutout.... I am surprised he did not manufacture them with such cutout.

I do like the K&M riser. However, you can pull the mandrel from the die, put a case in the shell holder and run the ram up to the top then screw down the empty mandrel die until it touches the case mouth and back off a half turn. Lock the ring down and insert your mandrel and your in business and know the mandrel has made full travel in the neck. I have the K&M riser and forgot to reset the die for shorter SAUM based cases while prepping for a LR match recently and was sizing only half of the neck. Talk about sky high and funky seating pressures with a 10".... uhum... 'waterline' over the match duration

So, even if you have the riser you must actually look into it every now and then.I look into the riser every time ... your use of taking out the mandrels and screwing the die down is great but if I remember correctly unlike the Sinclair die the 21st century mandrel sticks beyond the step off (I believe)? Seems like the case can still hit the shoulder of the mandrel somehow... you are right the technique you described it’s what is in 21st century video id still like to have a window like he does
