For quite some time I've wanted a Winchester model 92 replica or clone. I finally pulled the trigger on a Heritage model 92, a Winchester model 92 clone. I bought it in 44 Remington magnum caliber as I have 2, 44 magnum revolvers, both single action style. After purchasing the rifle and picking it up from my dealer I went directly to the range and fired 7 rounds out of it just to make sure that the function was correct. Although the first round jammed, the remainder of the first 7 rounds functioned without incident. I took the rifle home and put it in my safe. The next day, I removed it from the safe in order to photograph it for my firearms database. After shooting a shot of each side of the rifle, I put the gun back in the safe, and cleaning up my area especially the small sofa that I had laid the rifle on to shoot the photos I saw something laying in between the couch cushions and I couldn't see what it was initially so I picked it up, and it was a very small screw. I immediately got the gun out of the safe, only to find that a screw out of the left side of the receiver was missing and in fact I had it in my hand, so it normally would not be a problem, as I would just replace the screw back where it belonged. Upon examination of this screw, I realized that the screw had been cross threaded on initial assembly. That screw normally screws into a device inside the action called a cartridge guide. I have to assume the threads in the cartridge guide were damaged as well, so, reluctantly, I had to send the rifle back for warranty repair.
When I arranged for the repair, I was very distraught when they told me that the repair time to replace the screw was going to be 4 weeks! I couldn't believe that it was going to take 4 weeks for a 5-minute job, but that's what they said and that I didn't have any choice. The transit time was about one week in each direction and the 4-week turn-a-round did not include the shipping time via FedEx Ground, and as I live in California and the parent company of Heritage and Rossi (Actually the same company ownership), is located in Georgia.
So I've been waiting now for just shy of seven weeks for this rifle. I call every week as there are no notifications as to their progress given to the customer. They won't tell me anything, other than what they told me the first time I called, which is the rifle has been logged in and awaiting repair. I tried to find out more information, such as where I was in the cue and I could not get any information whatsoever. They won't tell me anything, so I just wait it's a pretty sad thing to wait as long as I did for this rifle, and finally it falls apart immediately just because of some small problem.
As a side note, before my rifle even showed up, I tried to order a screw set for the rifle. This was just a precautionary measure because if I were to ever drop a screw, there is a gateway to another universe in my work area! Any small bits are gone forever. When I tried to order, I discovered that Rossi/Heritage will not, under any circumstances, sell you screws for this or any other rifle. An UFB lack, of Customer Service!
So do any members here have experience with Rossi and/or Heritage? Any Suggestions?
