Custom repeater actions that handle 6mm Dasher with no problems

Are there any of the after market "Repeater" type actions that will function flawlessly with the 6mm Dasher using bullets from 6mm partitions to long type Bergers and Lapua. I'm referring to top quality actions.

If it's necessary to have after market additions like bottom metal please use it in your descriptions and your opinion of this kind of setup. I'm, interested in what an entire action will cost with the above just like anyone else would be interested, thank you.

I have a Remington that feeds Dashers well. I had to put a PT and G detachable box mag kit on(the BDL style). I would bet the custom clones would work just as good. The only modification I had to make was to put a spacer in the back of the magazine.

Thanks for the information Hoier I really do appreciate it. I thought others would have Knowledgeable input also but I guess not! You Sir seem to be the only one here with experience in that area.

I think it`s really hit and miss as far as working vs. not...

If there was a sure fire way to make it feed / cycle / eject, I would be all over it.....as would be others...

Good luck with your project, let us know how it works out for you.

Phil.

I've have seen a guy from Ut. who is shooting a 3 lug Bat action, installed in a Eliseo R-5 for XTC matches. It seems to function fine.

Ok just saw this. I don't have info on a dasher but I can tell you all about a 6 br and a repeater. I have shared this info before. I have a pierce short action with coned bolt and feed it with a AI 308 mag that has been modified with a 3/8" shim in the front. A dasher you may or may not need that big of a shim. I have 2 rifles with a total of over 7500 rnds thru combined and have 2 buddies each with one never a problem feeding. I think the coned bolt helps. Once you build one you will wish you did it years ago. Any questions just let me know.

Is there any particular reason you went with a Pierce action? Would this work with other similar actions?

Thanks a lot for your response.

Mine is built on a Nesika S action. I use H.S. Precision bottom metal with the mag for 223 with the spacer built in. Once I played with the lips on the mag it works great. Kind of overkill with that action (.750 bolt dia.)

9 twist Kreiger with Varget and 90 grn. Scirocco works well all the time. I don't need much else for S.C. deer.

Well other than pierce makes a great action, If you have ever met John him self a great guy very helpful. The biggest reason I started with them on other rifles is they are local and after one rifle I will only use them. So lets see great action good to work with fair price that should sum it up. The 308 mags you don't have to touch the feed lips. But with all this said I would think that any quality action with a coned bolt would work. just my experience has been with pierce.

I remember hearing that Gary Elisio`s tube guns cycle the 6BR case, you might want to call and ask him about the Dasher case.....

Rem 700 and a plain AI 308 5 round mag here. I use 87gr vmax loaded long to suit a 0.125" freebore with 33gr varget. Feeds fine, ejection is the only issue- I believe a bit heavier spring in the ejector plunger will help as I probably made the current one a little light. I would think any action that can take an AI mag would work, the magazine could be set up with a spacer, but really its not needed.

Bert thanks very much for your reply, it really does help me.

BY1983, thank you for your input. My reason for asking was because I had heard a lot of guys had problems loading and ejecting the short Dasher cases. I had not heard of the Rem 700 AI magazine curing the problem.

Do you have any idea what a 308 Magazine hardware costs ?

Pretty sure the bottom metal and AI mags are fairly available in the US. Sinclairs or somewhere like that will have it. Sometimes the cases wont eject and they just spin backwards, but I have found deliberate bolt cycling seems to help. The good thing about the dasher is its that accurate you dont often need to follow up with another shot. If I was going to do a custom dasher varmint repeating rifle, I would get a pierce repeating action with the sako extractor on the bolt and a stiff ejector spring to flip those cases out.

No experience with the Dasher, but I just built a Br with a Remington action using a PT&G bolt. At first I used a .223 mag box with a shortened .308 follower. The rnd would either nose dive or the rear wouldn't come up for the bolt to catch. The main problem here was to get the spring adjusted correctly and to stay all the way forward on the follower. With the PT&G bolt, the ejector doesn't extend forward enough to kick out the case, so I had to lengthen the retaining pin notch.
I have since moved on to using a CDI bottom metal and an Accurate mag which I shortened the front of the follower and added a spacer. Works great. Still need to slightly lengthen the ejector a tad. Oh btw, loading mags with these short cases is kind of a pain.

I have 2 22BRs and a 6BR on Remington 700 actions. I use CDI bottom metal and modified 223 AI magazines. I can squeeze 7 rounds in them but prefer to load 6. As mentioned above, the extractor has to be modified to protrude a bit more than it normally does for the BR cases to eject. This is a cut and try operation. I have mine set up to just clear the action. The CDI bottom metal converts the Remington action to feed from the center which IMO helps a lot. I set my mags up so that they are all the way up against the bottom of the action. Of course, the 223 AI mags have to be opened up a bit as well.

A BR case repeater is doable.

Well, listening to everyone's ideas and techniques has been interesting and I want you all to know I really appreciate the information.
What I don't understand is with all the "Gunsmiths" that visit this web site for customers (and information) why not a single one has come forward with an explanation that the average guy can understand and come to grips with.

This is evidently an engineering problem relative to the Remington Long/Short action and should be easily understandable to a Gunsmith/Engineer with the knowledge to say: This is what you have to do to get things to work GREAT! or Whatever!, Like nothing will ever work right because of XX conditions.
Sorry if I ruffled some feathers but I really believe a LOT of shooters are tired of work-a-rounds!

Totally my opinion so don't jump on other people for what I say.

Its easy why they don't do it. Not enough people want them for multiple reasons. And sure guys on a site called 6mm br want one but out side that how many will they sell for there time and trouble. Has to be a return on there investment. And don't get me wrong I have 2 and love them. Bottom line Remington didn't design there actions for that short little case. And others have designed action for short little cases but in single shot because that is the market. The average guy can pull off a repeater in a rem clone action without a problem. If they cant then they shouldn't be loading there own ammo for a rifle. Its been done enough and there is enough info out there on how to do it.
