Yes there sprayed , 3 coats Helmsmans Urethane, either in gloss or satin, depends on the wood. Usually use the satin or the walnut.

can you make them with hinged lids and possibly a Handel to carry it?

How many rounds and caliber?

The big question: Can you make a 50 round hinged box for 300NMI cartridges? They will measure nearly 4" long, and same diameter as the 338 Lapua parent case.
