Custom FL bushing die

I’m not up to date on who’s making custom sizing dies.

The one I have isn’t pushing the shoulders back right.

Who to look at for not the most expensive?

What caliber? Is the shoulder not get pushed back far enough? Too far? Can you modify your existing shell holder?
Good luck!
219 Donaldson Wasp. When I fl size bumping the shoulders .002” there’s soot on the neck and 1/2 way down the shoulder , when I neck size there’s no soot on the shoulder. I think it’s the shape of the resized shoulder. Same bushing nk and fl.

Have you tried full length sizing without the expander to bump the shoulder and size the body...and then size the neck as a separate and final step?
Good luck

What are the shoulder dimensions from fired to FL sized? That's the first place to start.
I measured shoulder to base FL sized to fired, FL sized is ~ .002” shorter.

Here- neck sized on the left, full length sized on the right.

Here’s 5 shot groups @ 100 yds, top is neck sized, bottom is FL sized.

Maybe its the pic but it looks like there's way more than .002 from Base to shoulder. What are you using to measure?
What is the shoulder dia fired vrs sized?
Same with base and Nk dia?

By shoulder dimensions I meant diameter wise. Sorry for the confusion. Nice shooting!

I’m using a Sinclair comparator on a Starrett caliper to measure base to shoulder.

Starrett micrometer measured:

Shoulder diameter: fired- 0.401” ; sized - 0.398”
Base: fired- 0.417” ; sized - 0.416”
Neck: fired - 0.256” ; sized - 0.252”

Shoulder diameter reduced too much??

Have you tried the Wheeler method to see if your bolt is closing with no resistance even though comparator is saying .002 bump.
I actually think like mentioned earlier if you want more bump take some off the shell holder.

I can screw the die down more to get more bump - I wanted 0.002”

I now know where the stickiness at the top of the retract stroke on the press is coming from.

I’ll look into opening up the shoulder part of the die. That should be doable somehow.

I prefer the Wilson neck die and arbor press so I’m good - I can FL size the cases every 5 or so loadings. I’ve gotten several groups in the 0’s and 1’s neck sizing for that rifle.

Just wondering if you may have a combination of a little to much sizing at the shoulder and a load that may be on the milder side. By neck sizing we know we are on the right track, more or less. If you only have to fls every 5 firings you are not shooting a very hot load. Generally speaking. If you want to stay with your current load somehow the shoulder sizing needs to be reduced, imho. Wish I had more. Sorry.
