custom bullets

I read a article on spencer rifles in Virginia.
it states that he recommends only 2 or 3 custom bullets for his hog rifles.it has something to do with the way that they are made.
any thoughts on this?

Which article did you read? Is there an online source for it? I know spencer was a custom bullet maker. I believe he had sold all of his bullet making. Doesn't do as much custom rifles anymore. He's a pretty smart guy. Hard to know what is truth and what is sales sometimes, ya know?

I think he also sold his barrel making business also. I was told he only will build a gun if we're a regular customer. Matt

The bullet choice seemed to be geared to the accuracy guarantee, not that the rifle wouldn't shoot other offerings just as well.

I spoke with him years ago, before his bullet and barrel labors. Given my 700 action, he would blueprint the action, bolt, etc., screw on a top barrel (Shilen?), in 6BR, guarantee the accuracy (1/2" IIRC, and that was MY bullet choice), bed the action in my stock, all for $600. And he was only an hour away. That I did not capitalize on that is one of my big 'shooting regrets.' Said in a different way: I'm an idiot...........

Rich, don't feel bad. Im in chesterfield. Used to do a whole lot of hunting in fluvanna. I'd stop in Scottsville and spoke with him a couple of times. Never used his services because I wasn't having anything built at the time. I feel like all it would take is a phone call though. Worse thing that can happen is he says, no. I spoke with him about my last varmint rifle 2 years ago and his prices where higher then that. He was willing to build it though.

Hilarious! If I had to build one today. I'd take my butt down to the shipping location of choice and send it off to skeetlee without a 2nd thought. Why drive an hour when there are fantastic smiths a shipping distance away.
Nice to know though that there is a fellow idiot in my area. Don't be a stranger if you ever want to get together.
