Custom Bolt

After reading the pacific bolt pictures thread, I think I would like to give one a try. I have a Rem. 700 short action just waiting to be built and now seems like the perfect time for a new bolt. After measuring the inner diameter of the action, how much clearance should I subtract for a good fit when I order the bolt? Also, does anyone know what they charge for their bolt handles?

Thanks,

Bill

I think the bolt handle comes with the bolt but its not on the bolt you have to have it put on . And before you get a new bolt you should have the bolt way reamed .

Is reaming the bolt way standard practice when blueprinting an action, or is that going above and beyond? The action I plan on using has been blueprinted but I'm not sure what was all done to it since it happened before I acquired it. Once it is reamed to a known uniform dimension, is there a rule of thumb as to the relative diameter of the bolt body?

Thanks,

Bill

If your old bolt has not been sleeved it has not been reamed. If the gun is for hunting I would not get a new bolt, truing is all you need even for a good varmint and bench gun. If it is to be used for a bench gun only, then you want .001 max clearance and dust can make them sticky . So if its not for bench use only you can save your money for something else like a better scope.
