Custom auto in .30-06

This is my first post. I am glad to be here and am sure I will learn a lot.

Let me start by saying...please no laughing. I would like to customize my Remington 7400. I said no laughing. Okay, I know people are asking why I would want to customize such a rifle. I get ridiculed by my friends just for owning one. Well, for starters, I am a Lefty and don't own a bolt gun. I have all singles, autos or levers. Secondly, I bought that rifle on my 18th birthday, 20 years ago as my first rifle. No one in my family hunted or was into shooting. Now, I have taught myself over the years on that rifle and I am at 100% with game,,not bragging...that 100% is only 5 animals). That rifle has some sentimental value to me. I would like to do something to make it more enjoyable to shoot and a little more accurate. I have thought about sending it to...

I do not have any experience with this company, or any gunsmith for that matter. I like some of the modifications they do to the 7400 and am considering some of them for mine. Does anyone know this company? Is it reputable? What are your thoughts on the modifications that they do? Would any of you do the same type of mods to this type of rifle? Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Thank you!

I wouldn't make any mods at all to that rifle. For the intended purpose, it's fine just the way Remington built it. Look at your record with it! There's just no beating 100%! I'd just keep on doing what you're doing with that rifle, and leave it as is. I have several rifles that I've just left completely alone over the years. Sighted 'em in, hunt with them and clean them. They're fine just the way they are.

If the extreme accuracy bug has bit - and I suspect it has since you're here looking around - then go for something like an accurate AR-15 or an accurate bolt gun. An accurate bolt gun is a wonderful thing - and easy to support. Build it once. Wear out as many barrels as you can over the years... Hit lots of itty bitty targets. It's a good thing. :thumb:

Guy, good point. I guess I have been bitten by some bug. I have a decent number of rifles ranging from that Remington, a Browning BLR and other "hunting" type rifles to 3 AR type rifles,2 in .223 and one in .308). My thoughts were...if I am going to spend some money, I figured I might customize some of the rifles I already have instead of buying a new one. I already don't shoot enough of each of the ones I have. But, you are right, the ones I have are very capable hunting guns the way they are.

Thanks for the feedback.

Accuracy Systems get a big thumbs up from me as they did some first class work, on time, for a very custom semi-auto magnum. Overbore :)
