Custom 25-06

Anyone use a .25 cal. For competition..I was just thinking about how much I enjoyed shooting my 25-06 and got to thinking..( which always cost me money)
What is a good shooting .25 cal. Wildcat..or do guys just use a 25-06 with tight neck..
I would like to hear how others feel about the .25 cal. Yeah or nay

I believe the problem with shooting the 25 for competition is not many good bullets available. It's hard to beat the 6 BR or its variants. Good brass, great bullets and a lot less powder compared to a 25-06. Matt

A friend used a 25-06 Sendero for a year or two in Mid-Range F-Class. Real small groups were possible out to 600 yards when the wind didn't blow with 115 VLDs and other bullets. Unfortunately, the wind starts to blow most days and the highest BCs available in .257 bullets run behind the best bullets in F-TR. After a couple years of matches with 60 rounds for record, the barrel was toast and he moved on.

It was an interesting experiment. But for competition, I would lean toward cartridges with higher BCs and longer barrel life. The .260 Rem with 140-142 grain bullets is much more appealing in F-Open, and either the .223 or .308 in F-TR.
