Current Status of Nesika Actions???

I've been a long time fan of Nesika actions, but then the last one I bought was back when the were still based in Poulsbo, Washington. Since that time they have been bought out by Dakota and moved out to the Dakota facility.

Well, I've been starting to gather the bits and pieces for a new project and found out that both Mike Allen and Glenn Harrison have BOTH left Nesika/Dakots. Then I've heard that both their quality and servcie have been slipping. I find this very upsetting because the last one I ordered was a thing of beauty and had I was able to have the entire action made to my spec. Now this news.

Has anyone heard anything about whats going on with Nesika and why? I'm not exactly ready to pop $1,400 for questionable results.

In 8/12/04 I ordered out a Nesika "T" action. When it arrived several months later it was for a .480 bolt face and not the .390 that I had ordered. Nesika offered a very good deal, pricewise, and so I ordered a .390 and another .480 bolt face action.

nine months later I finally had all three actions in my hands. The .390 would extract and release the Tac 20 round. I was told to send the bolt back and they would correct the bolt plunger depth/height. Then they sent the bolt to another person, instead of me, and he would not send it back. Then I sent the barreled action in and a new bolt was installed, and the rifle was returned.

One of the .480 actions would not feed well. I did some measuring of the feed rails, against the other two actions and found that the feed rails were dimensioned for a .223 sized case and not the .308 case that it was supposed to be. I was instructed to send the action back. The feed rails were corrected and the action was returned to me.

I like the Nesika actions. This is why I ordered one to begin with. I hope that their problems are now all corrected. I was told that Nesika had both machinery and personnel problems when they moved from WA to Sturgis. Probably the two that you mention were part of the group that decided not to leave WA.

My main point is that these problems should never have existed. My buddy in Glendive, MT purchased a Nesika repeater action at the same time and has had similar problems with his.

I have also been informed that a Dakota rifle/action can be tracked to any spot on the production floor by a computer program that keeps track of these things. A Nesika action must be located by a person because they do not have the "tracking ability" set up for them. This makes me pretty sure that Nesika is treated with a "stepchild" mentality by Dakota.

As I write, my Nesika T action set up for Tactical 20 is back, again, at Nesika. Yep, the old extract and release problem. I have been informed that they are going to install a Sako extractor in hopes of solving the problem. We shall see.

I have never seen a Nesika from the WA base, so I have nothing to compare my three against.

My experience with Nesika was at best an absolute night mare.
My gunsmith ordered an action and they said 6 weeks for delivery. Well my gunsmith got the action about 8 months later. I would call and heard about every excuse invented by man. Machines broke down, short of help, help quit and then the lying started. At one point they said they had shipped it and it didn't come so I called and they said they made a mistake and hadn't sent it and some how some way they hadn't even started making it yet.I could go on and on with the deal I had with them. Then when I got the action it had the wrong bolt. So back it went. We got it back and it had the wrong ejector in it. So back it went and again a long wait. I get it back and the bolt release button did not work and the bolt shroud was not screwed in correctly. So back again.
I would start shooting a bow and arrow before I would deal with that company again.
Of anything I have ever bought in my life this is the first problem I ever had and boy was it a big one and an expensive one.

Guys,
My best shooting buddy Larry R. has had exactly the opposite experience in dealing with Nesika. It took about 4 weeks to receive the action. It is perfect in every way. At our last club 600 x 3 he shot a 600-41x pretty strong. Nesika has been very very good to him....He has had his action about 8 weeks, so it is a recent purchase...

They told me 4 weeks before the order. Paperwork came back saying 8. They deliver right on time. Action looks right. I'll put two barrels into it this weekend.
They may be back on track.

I'm hoping so, as I really like the actions. There was a Nesika thread over on the Benchrest Central board but I guess Nesika or somebody didn't like it much and had the thread pulled. Well, I guess I'll hold my breath and see about getting a new one as they are about the only maker who has all of the options I want with a stainless action.

Watch this space as my "medium hunter" bolt has just flown back across the big pond to undergo work to resolve the actions inability to support a 6X47SM case to the point of meaningful ejection.

I will not be a happy bunny if it returns and the same fault persists nor if this process takes months!

I too hope it is indeed simply a matter of installing a longer/deeper extractor claw but can't help feeling there is something a little more fundamental going on here.

Cheers

There has been a major move at Dakota/Nesika. The Nesika people and machinery have been moved to a seperate, away from the Dakota people, and smaller space. That space is NOT air conditioned and is smaller than the spaces that they were in, which were taken over by Dakota. There are a lot of people who are wondering how the machinery, and people, will react when the weather gets hot--90 degrees plus. This does not sound like a positive move to me. The move was completed yesterday and work will get going again in a short short. Carl L.

The machinery will work most of the time until it hits 110 in the shop, the people will sweat and get testy, especially when the phone rings a lot ;) It will probably be alright. AC the machinery first, people later.

Realizing this is an old post, when Nesika was in Poulsbo everything they did was perfect. After the move to SD everything spiraled down. I have two Poulsbo model J's, one is a long fat version for Unlimited class BR. both have been excellent.
The last one I was involved with was a SD model C that had the left port cut too short by about a 1/2",and had to be sent back for rework. When it came back they had milled off the front scope mount hole in the rear bridge, so a special one piece base had to be made for scope mounting.

I heard in July of 2023 that they were bought out by some newly formed group. A week or so later I heard that Eric (cannot remember his last name but is Walt Berger's grandson that was invloved in the Berger Bullet business) was one of the two partners.
