Remington Rifle Current Production Quality?

Some time ago I posted on Remington and wanted to know what was up with them on wither or not the new ownership was going under already, due to getting no replies back on several emails sent on various topics.

If you listen to Ron Spomer, he says under the new ownership quality control is the best it's ever been. To date, the 700 Varmint SF has yet to have any picture post on their site, and the 17FB brass is STILL unavailable along with others.

Has anyone actually bought any of the new generation Remington's? If so, what's the good, bad or ugly on them?

Remington stuff has been sooooo copied and redone by so many other companies - a lot of em with really nice stuff - it might be tough for Remington to be competitive with their own designs. ;)

I don't like having no Remington Firearms company in the world; it just doesn't seem right. I hope they come up with something, and it would be great if it employed a lot of people. jd

There been allot of talk about this. My understanding is that only certain models are high quality. And there was still allot of old parts being put to use. You’ll just have to do your research. Seems like the newer calibers like the creedmores and such were the good ones. Good luck

I just got a barreled action back from my Gunsmith. It's a was 243 and he took the barrel off and threaded and chambered a new barrel. He squared up the action and lugs. He said it was the Truest action he had ever did. He took .002 off to square it up.

This was a Remington 700 and rebarreled to a 22 Creedmoor.

I had a Bergara follow me home this last year, and I'm thinking that Remington will have their work cut out for them if they're gonna match or beat that kind of gun for the money. I hope they do though. jd

I have had a few RR and RAR actions recently. They all had decent lug contact and the faces were only off by .001 or less. The primary extraction and amount of cock on close is atrocious. Only one had a jeweled bolt, it ran decent. The others were Parkerized and ran like a piece of 60 grit Crocus cloth.

I don't really ever expect Remmington to produce 17 Fireball brass again, other than a token run now and again. I really don't expect even that much. Basically, Remmington brought it out with a lot of fanfare, then nearly almost completely abandoned it.

I have two recent manufacture Rem Arms 700's, a 22" 6.5 CM, and a 26" 308 Varmint.

The accuracy is decent on both, with the 308 being quite a good shooter for a stock rifle, and is definitely less than MOA average for most 5 shot groups. The 26" barrel is quite long and heavy though.

The extraction and feeding is fine on the 6.5 CM. The 308 has had an issue with difficult chambering since new. I suspect this is secondary to the extractor not wanting to snap over the case rim. The headspace is fine, but the extractor or extractor groove is out of spec.

I sent it back for warranty repair 6 weeks ago. I called 2 weeks ago and was told it was going to be at least another month.

Overall I have not been that impressed. Next purchase will likely be a custom action and a prefit instead. I also think the Tikka's I have are superior too.
