current GI surplus powders?

I have seen #844 and #846 listed as similar to H335 and Bc'2 and just curious if any of you have experience with them

what calibers and bullet weights have your used them with

thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Bob

I use it all the time in .308 and .223 and it works as good as any powder I have tried for any kind of shooting.

Load them both in a 223... Works very well I loaded a few loads with the substitute data (335-blc-2) and then compared it to the 844 and 846. Some lot burn rates are faster some are slower. Just chrono it and load them up. I have some very accurate loads with both powders. I would like to buy more than I have now. Matt

If you run into some of the pulled down from M2 ball ammo (30-06) powder grab it. It is IMR 4895. A few years back I got a few eight pounders dirt cheap. It has chrnoed within the range of what different lot # of canister IMR 4895 shoots.

Gentlemen, thank you for your response,-it looks to like I need to get me some 844 and 846.

hummm.

all the locations I have checked are out or on backorder.

I will keep watching.

You probably won't see anymore until another military inventory turnover cycle occurs.

Besides WC844 and 846 there is also SMP842 (mil equivalent of CFE223) and 8208 that floats around occasionally. I haven't seen WWII-Korea era 4895 (30-06) for a LONG time, got in on that as well. I doubt we'll see any more 4895 as the 30-06 was discontinued as a general use military cartridge long ago, suspect we may see a little more 8208 and should see 842/844/846 type 223 and 308 powders, maybe even some RL15 type 308 powders in the future.

It would pay to have a friend that worked at LC and had a clue as to what was coming.

I've been using various military powders for years with great luck. Still kicking myself for not buying more when it was available. >:(
