Curious why David with his 6.5x47L...

who won at the 2018 Williamsport 1000Y World Open, hasn't been mentioned here in the Comp forum???

I saw this in the Bulletin so that's why I'm asking.

Congrats David!

Its an open forum, make the post.

I guess at this point I'll back off but I do have questions.

I was surprised at the cartridge used. Heck I'd really like to know if it was windier than usual and that's why those 140's helped with the higher BC??? Anyone present there, if you would give your opinions on this.

Granted I'm ignorant of most things Benchrest but isn't this a prestigious event, or not so? I just thought there would be some more attention brought to it and to the winner, is all, I mean here in the Comp forum???

Williamsport is never an easy range to shoot on. Both days had challenging conditions for sure. As for cartridge...I don't think so...

The 6.5x47 will shoot with the 6mms for accuracy. Lots of records and matches have been won with it. It does not really give a ballistic advantage, and theres a recoil price so you dont see them as often as the 6mm. But if you dont want to fire form, and want a case thats very easy, thats not a bad choice. Williamsport is usually a tough range to shoot at conditions wise, the 6mms are not as dominant there as they are a lot of other places. I think they did a daily bulletin on the world open.

Good topic. I read about many shoots going on. The do not often read about the results. When someone posts results here they often speak of the winners with no picture and score sheet accompanying the article. We have to seek out the IBS or NBRSA postings weeks/ months later to see what happened.

Right now Alex and others are getting ready to do the major shoot in Montana. I know Alex and others there will both post results and pictures. Hint, hint hint.

Since I'm not involved in benchrest I wasn't aware 6.5x47 was capable of winning a BR match, though I know it's a great cartridge.

Fun story, I've been to only one 1000Y Benchrest match, down by Tucson AZ, around 10 years ago.

Just so happened I was in the pit watching Charles Greer's 10 shot record shot right before my eyes on the bull right in front of me! I was thinking to myself as this happened, man that's one fantastic group right there, having no idea it'd be a record!!!

Thanks for all the info guys.

Some one has to take it upon themselves to make posts, do reports, and write ups. It all takes time. You have to want to grow the sport and promote your matches. Anyone that was there and knows the details can do that. I think its helps grow the sport and gives a pat on the back to those that work hard and earn it. Instead of asking why someone else has not done something, take the initiative and do it. A couple of guys alone can not follow or know what happens at every match in the country. So the more guys stepping up and reporting the better.

I believe RAYTHEMANROE did a write up on Dave with his 6.5x47!
Dave has only been shooting just a few years, he came to our school, and keeps kicking my butt.
But last match I did get even and beat him out of second place.
Dave is a supper nice guy, kind of Quiet but carries the big stick.
This is one of the big things a Williamsport, You never know who is going to win.
