Cup base vs flat base bullets?

Flat base in my experience will almost always shoot tighter groups at short range, but somewhere around 20-300 yards the boat tails will take over. Gary

I have never really shot flat base bullets too often as the majority of my sport is LR. During these wackado times, a local club has 100 meter slow fire each week, four targets, 10 rounds each, all prone, all socially distant, shoot what you brung fun matches. Keeps my technique in practice, setup, head position, trigger release, etc.
The target is fairly generous, 100 yard small bore prone target, cleaning it is pretty easy, so it’s an X count game so to speak. My buddy shoots a 222 Rem with 53 grain flat base bullets, he not only cleans it, often with 10x per target, his 10 shot group in under 1/2 MOA, just one ragged hole.

I would love to join that event. Guessing it is nowhere near eastern Washington State.

In a rural area of upstate NY, beautiful country, in spite of the politics, far from NYC, we have our crosses to bear here, just as you have on the west coast.
