Crushing Hornets

Loading 35 gn Hornady flat base v-max in 22 hornet and having a problem crushing lip of case like bullet started seating crooked. What's the best remedy.. Didn't have a problem loading 17 hornet. Using Redding dies. Resizing went ok, just when seating bullet

With a Lyman type "M" expander you can bump the case mouth onto the second step that will expand the case mouth approximatly .001 larger than bullet diameter. This allows you to start the bullet straight into the case with just your fingers and also helps reduce bullet runout.

The Lyman type "M" expander is not just for cast bullets and eliminates bullet tilting during seating. And many shooters using progressive presses use the "M" expander with rifle cartridges.

Below if you just bump your cases onto the second step (B) the bullets will start straight into the case without any effort.

What uncle Ed said will work but they make an expander just for flaring them. Don’t feel bad anyone who has ever loaded many hornet rounds has done the same thing until they learn that.

I chamfer only if I have trimmed. For seating I use a Lee Universal expander to flare the case mouth just enough to let the FB bullet in.

Those pointy projectiles are the biggest problem. The dies are usually made for blunt Hornet style bullets. I much prefer loading the blunt ones. If I do load pointy ones, I just loose 3 or 4 per hundred.

Hadn't thought of that, will give it a go . Tried loading a few Nosler 40gn BT but they are to long for the mag, might have to do a mod or find HPBT 40 grainers if they are made.
thanks
If this is a CZ, check the twist. Mine was a 1-16 and would only shoot the little stubby Hornet style bullet. 40 vmax side ways at 50, even tried speed to over come the twist and no luck.

Lots of inside neck chamfer, then polish that with some 4O steel wool, use a neck lube like graphite. Also check a sized case and see how much your die sizes your neck. It might be sizing it down too much aggravating the problem.
