Creep in my Jewell trigger

Almost 2 years ago I purchased a Jewell HVRTSXR-A trigger. After last years shooting season I was very surprised to notice that there was quite a creep in my trigger! My gunsmith here in Norway took a look at it and was not happy, and he told me that he got rid of some of it but not nearly all.

Now I have shot half the winter season and the creep is so bad that I took another trip to my smith and told him to replace it with a much cheaper trigger, hopefully without creep. I'm sad to say I have given up on my Jewell.

The reason I purchased a Jewell was to get the best trigger on the market and to avoid this kind of trouble. "Buy the best and cry once", right....?

I have a Rem 700 and the trigger is set to about 1030 grams.

Does anyone have the same experience with the trigger or is it just bad luck with the product? Does the warranty cover this?

I was told that Jewell does not have an e-mail account and the only way for me to get in contact with them was by snail-mail or phone. Since I live in Norway it also does cost a considerable amount of money to send it back, I guess.

Coments please!

You aree correct, no e-mail contact available. You could phone or fax them. Phone 512-392-0543
FAX 512 392-0543
Shipping in one of the Global Priority envelopes would not be that much perhaps $15.00 US
I would FAX them with your e-mail contact info and take it from there.

Do you flush it out now and then with lighter fluid? Don't oil ever. The lighter fluid is lubrication enough.

I have newer used any lubrication at all on the trigger. I have newer flushed it with lighter fluid so that could be worth at try.

Because of the fine tolerances in the trigger, I'm I correct if I say that this kind of trigger is more suitable on a sunny day for bench work, than on a cold winter day in the field with snow at temperatures below 0 F? In my shooting game this is often the case I'm afraid :)

I'm hoping my Shilen Match trigger does at better job in this environment.....anyway I guess it's worth a try to fax Jewell.

Triggers may need cleaning and readjusting from time to time. This is normal maintenance. Take it off the rifle, spray it out with some aerosol gun cleaner, let it dry, then squirt some lighter fluid through it, let that dry, and then remount it and readjust it according to the manufacturers directions. It is really no big deal. With a picture of how the internal parts fit, and a Phillips screwdriver, I took the side plate off of mine, just to check it. I took my time, paid attention, it was easy. Do you use a cleaning rod guide that seals in the chamber with something like an o ring? The trick is to not let debris fall or leak into the trigger, during use or cleaning.

I never clean the bore without using a bore guide, so the trigger is free of debris and dirt :) My gunsmith cleaned it and adjusted it the last time and he did not manage to get rid of all the creep.

Many good suggestions but I don't believe dirt and debris is the problem here (that would have been an easy fix)

I have over a dozen Jewell triggers in my rifle never a problem with a single one. I my opinion they are the very best money can buy at any price. I am sure Jewell will make good on yours.

hunter74,

Do what Boyd said, I had one that did the same. I flushed and readjusted, fixed it. I did have a spring break once. Jewel fixed it

tigil, I buy my Jewell triggers from Larry D.Scott email greatscott144@yahoo.com www.varminthunters.com phone# (270)924-5290 a great guy to deal with cheap prices and super fast shipping.

The flushing didn't work according to my smith. I have given up on my Jewell and I'm hoping my Shilen does a better job for me. I have shot about 2000 shots with my Jewell and I don't want a trigger that needs "tinkering" in the middle of the season. I believe it's better to focus on the shooting and use my spare time on the range practicing. If you take the barreled action out of the stock and the rifle needs re-zeroing. It's not funny when the gear doesn't work. The focus of the shooter should be on the perfect shot, not on the gear.

Larry Scott does not have an export permit anymore, so he can only sell to US customers.

I have tried to send a fax to jewell but I get "Invalid number" in return. I have used
+1 281 512 392 0543. I would be grateful if anyone can confirm if this is the right number including area code and all....

It's been 20 years since I touched a fax machine and they are hard to get here in Europe, nowadays....

You need to eliminate the '281' from that number. In the USA, the country code is '1', followed by a ten-digit number which comprises a 3-digit area code and a 7-digit phone number.

So, +1-512-392-0543 ought to do the job.

Second, forget what your gun smith says. Let your finger tell you the story. Triggers aren't that complicated. Keep them clean, never use lube, and if necessary, tweak the adjustments yourself. A big part of your frustration is that you have a gun smith involved.

If my car tires need air in them, I drive to the petrol station and get air. If my trigger needs adjustment or cleaning, or if I have to mount a scope, I do that myself. Much less frustrating than having to take the gear to somebody who will charge a fee, and may not do a good job or even know what they're doing.
