creedmore no pulse sling....

anyone have any experience with one of these...they seem rather bulky compared to some of the other slings out there and i've been toying with the idea of snagging one. i know if i ask 10 different guys i will get different opinions..i'm just curious about what you guys thought???? did you like it and what were you using before it???

thanks in advance,

riggs

I haven't had all that good results with slings rigged like that. (pulling from the wide inside and outside of the arm) They tend to slide*, and result in all the pull coming from the inside, which greatly reduces the support--so you need to really tighten the sling down to keep it in place.

I like the Jensen (one of the cuff-style ones that looks stolen from a clydsdale's tack room) with the wide cuff and strap. The Tubb one didn't work for me all that well.

Of the ISSF-legal (40mm max width) ones, only the $$$ MEC sling worked well. That one gives me no more pulse (and maybe even less--I haven't done enough SCATT testing to be sure) than the thick Jensen one, with the advantage of staying put better, and being easier to adjust.

But, that said, quite a few folks like slings that just won't work for me. It might work well for you, but I haven't had good luck with that type. It looks like a good version of that type, however.

*By that I mean the cuff stays in place, but the sling, with the sling swivel acting as a pulley, will tend to adjust a bit toward whichever side is tighter. (Usually means that the outside starts with more tension, but as the string goes on, more of the tension moves to the inside strap)

thanks Nate. i appreciate the info. i'll see if i find any of the same issues that you had...at least i'll be looking for those issues. i have been told that these need to be tightened down really well...

hey in regards to this Creedmore sling...are they ISSF legal??? i know it's good for NRA High Power match rifle...and is not legal for service rifle.

I don't think it is ISSF legal... "Enhanced grip on the 2 inch cuff inner surface provides sure and stable positioning"

2" is more than the 40mm ISSF rule.

But, you could still use it for NRA smallbore. (Just not the NRA "international" rulebook, or USA Shooting matches)

this would be legal for High Power Rifle matches though....right??? unless i'm reading the rulebook wrong there are no limitations on slings for match rifles? just want to make sure...a lot of this is new to me.

Correct. Pretty much anything goes in HP. It's smallbore that has the really strict rules. (And I was just specifying that for most smallbore (NRA sanctioned) you might find to shoot, you'd be okay to use it.)

I've used Jim Owen's "no pulse" for a while, since Jim rigged one up for me a number of years ago. I found the pulse impulse to be lessened, but the big advantage, for high power anyway, was the speed at which you can connect to the rifle at the line. Put the sling on your arm behind the firing line and then it only takes a couple of seconds to rig it to the rifle once you get on the line. Saves time for snapping in and getting a good NPA.

I've been using a Creedmoor no pulse match rifle sling for 20yrs in NRA OTC & LR comps.
I've found that utilizing the coat strap/hook to keep the sling on the upper arm & not tightening the sling as though it was a tourniquet, pulse was non existent while prone shooting from 300-1K.
The circus(service) rifle no pulse sling configuration works for some but not for me.
