creakote

C Series. Air dry. 24hrs dry, 5 days full cure. It’s pretty durable and I’ve used it a lot. Small parts I’ll put in a 100° oven to help speed along.

H series. Requires an oven to cure. Faster cure times warmer temps, slower cure times lower temps. You would use lower temps for things like stocks that can’t take higher heat. Gloss is varied with the amount of hardener used.

Both require blasting with an oxide grit. Glass beads will not work properly.

I mainly use a high quality small Iwata LPH80 gun but there are more budget friendly I see people use.

There are other permutations and other products but that’s the basics on the two most popular. Cerakote has application guides that would add the finer points to my outline above.

It is easy to use, durable. I have done a few rifles they turned out well. I sand blasted two and used sand paper to rough up one. They all turned out fine. Opt for using a sand blaster if you can. The website has excellent videos. I prefer the bake on to the air dry. You can make a cheap oven for the process..

A friend has a rifle that is Cerakoted by the builder. Unfortunately the bolt and the inside of the action were done, and that basically increased the friction between them to a noticeable degree. Another shop that I know about masks of the insides of actions. If you are going to have this done, make sure that you come to an understanding about this, and get a chance to handle some of their work. Having a new rifle, or even a remodeled old one that feels like the inside of the action has a sandpaper finish would really piss me off.
