I had some brass on the bench that show the benefits of bushing your firing pin nominal and thought I'd post them.
First photo is 338 LM fired from a stock Remington 700 with the stock bolt and firing pin. Load is fairly hot but acceptable. I believe the 300 bergers were about 2650 fps with this load. No hard bolt lift.
The second photo of of some 308 I fired during load development. It was too hot. The primers a flattened to fill the primer pocket. The bolt was hard to extract. The GAP 4S brass (6.5 SAUM) is my current load. 61 grains of H1000, 140 berger, 3050 fps. No pressure signs. Both of these bolts are bushed to .062/.059. Both loads are as hot or hotter than the 338 LM above but no craters.
