Crack in MagPul Stock

I bought a New MagPul Hunter stock for my Rem. 700 6mm and I have fired 60 rounds since changed stocks. A crack has appeared in the center of the stock right behind the action. The crack is 11/16 inch long and 1/8 inch deep at the action and 1/3 inch deep where the wrest turns down. At this time the rifle is still holding zero.

My question is have anyone had this to happen with a MagPul stock and how did effect the rifle.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS call the company first before you come to a forum.

I had a few of those stocks with no issues.

Do you have a picture of it?

Agree with others - call mfg first.

I've seen stocks crack that have been shot in Lead Sleds but in all cases the rifles were chambered in high recoiling magnum cartridges and the sled loaded with heavy bags of shot.

I called MagPul and talked with one of employees and all he said was it would not be a problem. He did not offer and way of fixing the split. I have since found the split issue is somewhat common with these stocks. I have also e-mailed them for any suggestions for repair or replacement. Shoot4fun, as for calling them I did and I did not get a satisfactory answer, and this post was just to gather information and find out if MagPul stock owner had this problem and how they fixed it. I am not bashing MagPul.

I am not a New to the firearms business, I have been shooting guns for 60 years and reloading rifle, pistol and shotgun shells for 50 years and I know how to deal with businesses when I have a problem.

K22 is right, I have seen several big rifle stocks cracked from being fired in heavy lead sleds. I don't have a lead sled and this rifle has not been fired in one. I have only fired 70 gr and 85 gr. Sierra Match King bullets loaded well within book data. I have two McMillan stocks on my 308 rifles and neither one of these have cracks or splits and I have fired thousands of rounds with them.

Oh well I guess you can't ask simple question on this forum.

Based on this post, I will simply ask this. Did you call Magpul BEFORE you came there and started this thread?
If that is the case then you should have put that info in the original post. That way anyone would know the FULL story and comment based on that.
As for your years of experience, well they are pretty close to mine (I am an old fart too) and I know when so mean tells me something "would not be a problem" I would venture to take the conversation to something on the order of just how they intend to correct the issue. So, as someone who has not only been shooting, reloading, etc and actually worked in the firearms industry for some time before retirement I would say you may not really know how to deal with businesses when you have a problem.

I don't particularly care if he contacted MagPul or not.

In his first post, he's looking for information on whether this is a common problem. Whether MagPul is taking care of it, or not, doesn't help answer the question.

Disagree. If he had called Magpul and the CS person told him not to worry and to just keep shooting it that way that would have been a problem. He just joined the forum Tuesday and his first thread, on Friday, is about a problem he is having with a product. There is nothing in the OP about trying to find out beforehand if there were others with the same problem. That came later. Nothing in there about actually discussing the issue with Magpul CS, That came later. My issue is more to his lack of info up front than his cracked stock.
Kinda like someone posting in a pet load thread "30 grains with a 105". Thirty grains of what?! Don't you want the rest of the story?

My question would be, did he specifically ask for a replacement stock. I ask this only because I just googled about Magpul warranty and could not find any answer. Their site only has a phone number to call and a form to fill out if you are experiencing difficulties. That seems strange to me.

I have several of their products and have been satisfied with them, including the same stock the OP shows with a Remington 700, 22-250 mounted in it.

Frankly, the response received from them is less than desirable. Very poor customer relations. I would have expected more from a company whose products are so popular.

My question was has anyone on this forum had a crack in their MagPul stocks. I didn't say anything about MagPul other than naming the stock I had.

Why should I call MagPul first to ask them if anyone on this forum had a MagPul stock that cracked?

Yes I called MagPul and talked with and employee before I posted on this forum.

Shoot4fun, I started in the gun business in 1966, selling guns in my Dad's store. I have also worked part time in a sporting goods store since 1973. In fact I worked yesterday and sold 4 pistols, 2 rifles, 2 shotguns as well as several boxes of ammo, reloading items, bullets, powder and dies.

In times like these you didn't "sell" anything. You just took people's money for it.
I worked thru several big "runs" but this one beats them all.
Never thought 8 pounds of Varget would be worth $600 to some folks.
As for cracks in stocks, I've seen a few big name high-dollar stocks develop cracks over the years. It happens, no matter if it is a $200 or a $2,000 dollar one. I would think with all your experience you would have too. There are things that happen with firearms and related components that sometimes just make you say "oh well" and move on. This should have been that time.

Shot4fun, I have seen cracks in stocks before but they were on old wood stocks or stocks on heavy rifles that were fired in over loaded lead sleds. However, this is not the case as I said this stock is on a 700 in 6mm Rem. this caliber doesn't produce enough recoil to crack a stock or at least the loads I use don't.

I was not asking about cracks in other big name stocks. I guess you just can't understand a simple question.

On another forum I have found it is a common problem with these stocks and it doesn't have a negative effect on the accuracy or life of the stock.

Neither am I talking about stocks cracked by Lead Sleds. One was a composite stock that held a 223 Remington bolt gun and it cracked it a non-stress point. It had never even been close to a Lead Sled and for that matter had never been fired anywhere else but attached to a bipod.

Rustytigwire, is that the stock being discussed about in this thread? Looks like a nice one. Where was that picture taken. Looks like long range paradise.

Georgia and Alabama, man you southern guys need to chill out a bit.:)
