Coyotes and 69gr Sierra Match Kings

Will a Sierra 69gr MK fail to open up in a coyote fired from an AR-15?

I really don't know the answer.I have shot coyotes a few times with 55gn Noslers out of my 223 and they went right down. I'm just to damn lazy to walk that far to check it out.
Have you shot coyotes before and if so with what?

Isn't that a fmj? I would suggest a varmint/hunting bullet. While yes it will kill it, it might not be a whack flop kill. Might take a few seconds.

I stopped using them on varmints after seeing no performance and witnessing a wild ricochet after hitting a hog. A buddy of mine let his young daughter take a buck a few years back with these 69’s from a Ruger bolt gun. Perfect shot, buck ran 100 yards and died. He said he found no damage inside the animal while butchering it. Through and through. Not what you want from a hunting bullet…

regarding the 69 grn MK in either HP or Tipped, say it will not reliable open, due to having the heavier jacket compared to the BK's in varmint shooting.
So you would better off having some BK's for your varmint endevours, even tho the MK will kill, if placed in a proper spot on a varmint/coyote.

Sierra says in their manual they do not recommend SMK for hunting. I'd run Nosler BTs or Sierra BK personally.

Last coyote I killed was with a 69 gr. SMK in a .223 . Never killed one deader with a swift. Took one step and fell over. Doug

I have killed a couple with the 69smk. I think that bullet is on the fence for coyotes. However, the 52smk or hornady 52 match is a hammer on coyotes they are still my favored bullets
