gray fox.View attachment 1078504 Game camera shot at about 25 yards. Three coyotes have been seen in this area during the last two week deer season but am not sure about this animal. What say the coyote hunters? Coyote or fox?
Winner Fox dinnergray fox.
Reds always show black legs and black on the back of their ears and a white tipped tail:
Here is a gray, notice the white underbelly and black end of tail:
My first instinct was gray fox...the pointy, snipey nose, the skinny legs....but then again it could be a young coyote. The reason I say this is because of the overall consistent color. I realize this is a black and white infrared photo, but you should be seeing some of the color differences on the legs and front chest area. Grays are generally pretty black up on the top of their back. You can rule out a red. One thing that stands out on reds and this is true no matter what the color variation...they all have a white tip on their tail. Coyotes and gray fox both have a black tip. If it were a color picture it would be easy because you wont see that deep orange on a coyote like you do with a gray on his chest.
