coyote callers

I know I will get a lot of different types and brands of callers , but what is everyone using for callers particularly in the northeast? I plan on buying a good one as the one I have is about 20 yrs old and is horrible! FoxPro, western river are the ones I'm really looking at.

Thanks!

Can't go wrong with a FoxPro, even in the Northeast. What I like about them is their sound. I have tried Primos and Johnny Stewart callers, but my success became significantly better with the FoxPro.

Thanks for the replies, I will look closer into the FoxPro. Anyone have any experience with the western river?

I don't know anyone in my circles using Western River, but you would be wise to listen to one in comparison with FoxPro. If you can't hear them next to each other, then go with FoxPro. Cabelas used to carry both brands if there is one near you.

I will say, it seems you get what you pay for with these callers. Better sound and volume in a small package costs more. Not certain what you plan to use the caller for, but for the most part, you need the cottontail in distress calls and the bird in destress call for coyotes. I use these 95% of the time for yotes. I have used the pheasant in distress and the fawn bleat with mixed results. At times I use a locator call such as a siren or howl, but usually I just let the distress calls run out of the gate. I use a mouth call for a rodent squeaker since this can get them to stop in their tracks or come the last few yards for a better shot. Unless you are hunting out west or for other species, you don't need to pay for an extensive list of calls, just make sure the ones I listed are on your caller.

go with FoxPro they have excellent customer service and an excellent product and offer a lot more

With the FoxPros, what kind of distance are you able to get between the call and the remote. I'm reading mixed reviews on the maximum distances before the remotes will not work.

I use a Primos Turbo Dogg in northern Wisc, and it works well. Can put speaker 100 yards out and it works flawlessly, easy to pack and good call selection. Barlow

I have never pushed the distance nor measured, but I can get out there about 75-100 yards with my FoxPro. Mine is a several years old now and the companies have all tried to increase the remote range. You do need to keep your batteries fresh for maximum distance.

You will be happy with this one... I have it... and it's a deal at Rogers... rebate ... free shipping and all... what a deal

Primos Alpha Dog ... 200.00 with free shipping Plus... 30.00 rebate..... what's not to like about a quality caller for 170.00

I use hand/mouth calls. The best call I ever had was a dying woodpecker, it was so real you wanted to send flowers to Mrs. Woodpecker, worked better then all the rest till someone decided to borrow it when I wasn't looking!
Best all around call was a Weems wildcall. They aren't made anymore!

I used a lot of manufactured calls but the Burnham Brothers in Texas made some really great hand calls however, I haven't bought anything from them in a few years.

FoxPro is the only way to go.
I have had 3 furies starting off, upgrading each time and a now use a shockwave for my calling out here.
I owned 5 johnny stewarts, 2 western rivers, 6 Primos, 4 flextone ER1 units and took them back or sold them for one reason or the other, (mostly quality) and CS from them a while back was non existent.

A few years ago, i spent the $400= or so on the Foxpro - and I had not regretted it as it works well. I've never liked all the batteries it takes to run it - but that is a battery issue.

Recently, my hunting partner had brought a little caller held in the hand with a pistol grip that cost well under a hundred bucks. It called 'em in just as good as the Foxpro. He said he got it at Bass Pro Shop online. Several weeks later, he had another hand-held one that he bought for cheap at Walmart. Turns out he gave his other to another friend who was impressed with it. It also worked great, calling in a nice coyote last Sunday when I saw him first use it. The Foxpro's and some of the other callers are very nice with a lot of features - but the new generation of cheap ones are WAY better than the expensive ones of just a few years ago. One no longer has to spend hundreds to get a reasonable caller.

I have used mouth calls for many years but went to a fox pro this year. man what a different. first 5 stands 11 yotes. I am hooked!
