Cowboy Benchrest , new shooting sport

thinking about a new Benchrest class , Cowboy Benchrest . I've been playing with the idea for a few years , it would be targeted towards cast bullets , cases designed befor1898 or any legal in cowboy action shooting . 38 special , 45 colt , 44 special , 32 S&W /Colt .
Want to keep it simple , rifles designed ( and built before 1895 ? ) maybe just local clubs . Any replies ? Suggestions ?
Thanks , Gary

There are a couple organizations that are somewhat similar.

Cast Bullet Association: https://castbulletassoc.org/default.aspx

If you happen to come across a 30BR with a 12 twist it probably belonged to one of these guys.

NRA Blackpowder Silhouette: Their rules are pretty specific but the game itself is simple. Not easy at all but simple. At our club 200, 300, 385 and 500 meters. The only shootin' match I've ever been to that's actually fun to watch.

Thanks guys , I'll check them out . I know there's nothing like that down here and we should have a new range opening soon .

Just sayin, there's nothing simple about shooting cast.I "get" the OP....but,some folks get right serious with our CB's.So,you're sort of trying to sell a notion or idea.Good luck with that, and this is in the most positive of ways.

The search for accuracy, knows no bounds. When rules or suggestions that we all follow a certain path "trumps",for lack of better terms...the desire to set or create our own goals,we give up a little.

I quit trying to explain how blooming accurate cast bullets are....folks have this sort of distrust for things outside of their comfort zone.

The CCSSEF has long range competition shooting from sticks and from a bench.

The first "Cowboy" shoot I ever attended (as a spectator) was at the Whittington center. I watched those NM shooters ringing the Steel Buffalo at 1000 Yds. with their BPCR rifles. Pretty darn impressive. "BOOM", wait a bit, DING!

Started shooting cast bullets ,my own in the mid 70s . Not easy , but rewarding and not dang near expensive as making your own jacketed bullets .
I was shooting at 100 yds a bolt 38 special Vetterelli with a green mountain barrel and a external adj Mossberg scope . I soon had a group of young AR shooters asking good questions . I want to keep it inexpensive , fun ( younger crowd loves shooting reactive or steel targets ) simple .
I modified some Mausers for 45 colt , 45 acp , 32 colt /SW it's easy , a good place to use up those small ring Mausers .
Thanks for responding

Ggmac, good for you trying to keep it real....

It would be a whole lot easier for me to chase .001's with conventional methods. The effort, expense and failure learning what it takes to shoot cast can't really be put into words. The gratification you get once a rig/load busts barriers....then once cleared,to drop that project and move on to new challenges, simply cannot be overstated.

Which I think folks on here can learn from...settling just isn't in our nature.

I don't know about CB's for rifles but the Oregon Trail Laser Cast bullet are some of the most accurate bullets I've ever shot out of my various 38 specials loaded with 231 Powder. They equal or exceed all jacket bullets I've ever tried.

The 'Rules' about the ability to shoot cast lead bullets in excess of 2900 FPS in a .30 rifle have been . . . massaged lately.

It seems the rules have changed. Or perhaps, the understanding of what the 'Rules' are has changed. Notably, repeatedbly by numerous shooters, 10 shot groups, sub MOA over the course of several weeks.

I've not done it. But it was sure nice to watch from the sidelines.

But to my understanding, this has nothing to do with Cowboy action and black powder. I apologize for the thread drift.

All responses are appreciated . I'm trying to gauge the interest and experience from shooters around the country .
Down here in south Florida , I feel we need a less expensive competition
Format , made for younger AND retired shooters .
Again , thanks .
