Could this be a Savage factory stock?

Hard to tell from your pictures, but it appears the action and barrel are pre-66. The "barrel bulge" the rear sight is dovetailed to was only found on pre-66 110s.

There should be an oval stamp on the barrel with 2 digits and a letter (not the oval "SP", Savage Proof, stamp). The letter will decode year produced.

They did indeed stock a series of rifles like that years ago. I had one in .30-06 that actually had fancier grain than that one. Mine was factory new when I bought it in 1974 or 75 and had a checkered aluminum (I believe) buttplate. Like the PE series without the engraving. Excellent shooter and sorry I ever traded it off (one of many regrets).

Found the stamps but I can make nothing of the date stamp.
That's an "R" which means your rifle is a first year 1965 Premier Grade 110P. Very cool!

Here's the link to a catalog which is visible to non-members (didn't know FAQ topics were) - https://www.savageshooters.com/content.php?234-Savage-Arms-1965-Print-Catalog

Savage 110 date codes start in 1957, through 1968 they were:

1957 = I
1958 = J
1959 = K
1960 = M
1961 = N
1962 = O
1963 = P
1964 = Q
1965 = R
1966 = S
1967 = T
1968 = U

The "U" was only used until an alpha character preceded serial number to comply with 1968 GCA.

I had a Savage exactly like pictured and it was a factory stock, I don't recall that mine was marked as Premier grade.

Thanks Phil. That's very helpful.
