Cooper 17 Ackley Hornet, Model 38. A Great Rifle? Let me Know?

What do you guys think of a 17 Ackley Hornet? I have a friend selling his dad's Coopers and this is one of them. A model 38. Fluted stainless barrel and a nice light rifle. Let me know?

I would jump on that one immediately.I have always loved that set up,a friend in Washington had one and it had the most beautiful English walnut I have ever seen.My idea for a perfect all day pd shooter. In Nebraska one fella challenged another to shoot his at a 500 yard pd,well he hit it and it died right away, but I wouldn’t recommend doing that regularly

I had one, loved it, but my hands are too big to manipulate that small cartridge in such a small action.

Hits to 300+ yards with VV-N120 and Nagle 20gr. bullets, super fun to shoot, everyone should try it at least once.....

While the bee may be a stronger case brass is spotty at best. Only stuff I know of now is hornady and even that seems to not always be available. That' the reason I chose the Ackley Hornet. Love both of mine.

Reed's ammo has the ready to go ammo & brass for the 17AH.

I think the 218 Bee is a much stronger case. Is your .17 AB on a Cooper or another rifle. I wonder if dialing down the brass is fairly easy?
Mines a MGM T/C Encore 24" 10tw barrel. 20 gr. V-Max at 3925 fps however close shots actually open up on grass and cause nasty surface wounds at that velocity. I stopped trying to shoot through it with it, not worth it...

I have a Model 38 in 17 Ackley Hornet. Tested my best load with ten 5 shot groups at 100y. Average group size .350 center to center. Best group .190, worst group .560. Winchester brass is the best. The neck thickness varied by only .001".
