Price will rise to that point at which the consumer stops buying the product due to high pricing.

We shooters (consumers) control price. Should we refuse to pay more than $330 for blank barrels, by nature the price will not rise higher than that price, but it takes restraint on our part.

Already, gun and gear makers enjoy substantially increased profits as of the most recent year. Yet, prices continue climbing generally. Therefore, we are paying more than we should.

I'll disagree with that. We cannot control the prices of steel, machinery, tooling, and labor as these commodities are not used solely in the production of barrels. Thus, we can only unload the producers to a more comfortable pace. That will spur innovation and more accurate rifles.

We must also remember that our governments are buying custom barrels also.

Even if we were able to flat-line barrel prices at , say $330, how long would it be before the prices of commodities exceeded the point where the added value of making those commodities into barrels was no longer worth the effort and capital investment of the barrel makers?

genericly you are right, but about bbls , i think you are wrong.
ar-15s went thru the roof in the last two years, but today you can buy a complete ar rifle for under $600...that is supply and demand.
i do not see that happening in the bbl business

Partly true Casey, we consumers can influences prices, but as others have said, others things do drive costs and are out of our control. Costs rise, all the time. If we all stop buying gun stuff at a certain price point, and the cost of manufacture eventually equals the selling price that we are willing to pay, there is no profit. At that point, one goes out of business. If profits become high, you can certainly influence that by taking your business elsewhere, and competitors may respond.

When one vendor charges 10$ a pound for powder or 10$ a thou. for primers more than another vendor in my book that's gouging and I can assure you I WILL NOT PAY those prices.

Yes, everyone stop buying barrels right now to drive the pricing down... Of course the major barrel makers all have 6-12 months of forward orders, so we will need to wait at least that long before we see any effect kick in...

Then when the barrel makers take a look at their cash flow forecast vs actual revenue and realise they cant meet their payroll, service their investment in capital equipment to cater for the predicted ramp-up in demand or buy more raw materials for the prices people are prepared to pay and therefore go out of business, I am sure the shooting community will be much better off. Just think how much money we will be saving then!

With this line of thought we'd still be paying a .05$ for a gallon of gas and $800 for a new car, $3500 for a house, and $.10 an acre for land, I don't think this works too well.... and my paycheck would probably still be $30 a month,of course I could pay my Dr. bills with eggs or bacon or pies also. On second though why should I "Have" to pay anything at all, they should pay me for using the products and working the land and living in the house......

Anyone consider that the OP is either a "troll" or just plain ignorant of how to run a business.

As previously mentioned you are FREE not to spend your money with any one or business you choose not to but to call for a boycott to lower prices is antithetical to what I believe America used to be and should be again.

Don't buy the barrel if the price bothers you, don't tell me what to do with my cash. The government already has that function locked up.

Used to go across the Delaware for lunch, one hour back and forth. $65 bucks for fuel, and then I had to actually BUY my lunch. They don't call them $100 hamburger runs for nothing. Bottom line, if you don't like the $$numbers$$, find another hobby.
