Controlled Feed or Push Feed

I was reading about Mauser in the forum and one writer mentioned using a Mauser for f class. Is the Mauser action controlled feed? Does one take the chance of having the bullet touch the action when seating a round and ruining concentricity? The target actions I see are push feed that seat a round straight into the chamber. Is this something I shouldn’t worry about? Pushing a round into the chamber with the finger and then closing the bolt in a controlled feed action sometimes needs more bolt pressure. Is that important? Anyone?

A well setup CRF feeds very smoothly and reliably, and supports the case exceptionally well. All my hunting rifles are CRF. My LR BR rifles are push feed.

For single round feeding like in BR and F Class, a CRF isn't the best choice. The extractor has to snap over the rim. CRF M-70s will snap over but many Mausers will not.....though the extractor can be beveled so it will.

It's best to load even single rounds in a CRF from the magazine. Now for years CRF Pre-64 M-70s were used in Highpower, but feeding from a magazine is no issue in that class.

There really isn't any accuracy difference between CRF vs push feed in magazine rifles. It's mostly the barrel and a little with the bedding and trueness of the action with any rifle.

The Mausenfield is a newer CRF target action. Not really sure what class it's used in. I would expect they have addressed and solved any issues for the classes where it used.

I made MR high master shooting a Mausingfield .308 in F/TR and my daughter is currently using it. Shot her first clean match with it a few weeks ago. Accuracy has never been a problem.

Never had an issue single feeding with the extractor, however, it’s an over complicated design for the application. I use it because I already had a custom rifle built around the Mausingfield when I started shooting F Class. When I had another built for that purpose I went with a Kelbly Panda

Both of my Ruger 77's and Mark X Mauser are CRF.
I can single feed all 3.
But as mentioned, the extractor needs to go over the rim of the cartridge.

They are no less accurate than my PRF rifles.

Just for grins, here is a CRF M-70 in 338 Edge. I sold this one to help fund my lathe and milling machine. The buyer was very happy with how well he could hit with it at long range. And yes, I am making another one........
