Considering HBN

I'm considering giving HBN a try. I have been shooting naked bullets all this time, but I am wondering if I can get more accurate shots between cleanings, perhaps even shoot an entire weekend of F-class without having to give the bore a scrub between days.

Here are my questions:

Does HBN really give benefits in a stainless barrel? The original inventor of the idea claimed that the grain structure of the stainless was too tight for HBN to penetrate. Any truth to that?

Does the barrel still copper foul? Does the powder fouling come out easier, or not build up as much?

I have a little bit of room in the case, how much did you have to bump up the load to get back to your original velocity ( I would re-tune the load though - just trying to get an idea if I have enough room in the case)? Specifically, I'm looking at this for my 308 F-TR rifle.

Where is the best place to get HBN? What sizes do I need? How much investment am I looking at to coat, say 1200 bullets?

Thanks,
Keith

Keith, I have used both. Hbn is cleaner to work with. I do not know about the other people, but I only had to raise my charge by 1 full grain in my rifle. Results will vary due to the tightness of the barrel. I could be wrong on this. I am sure someone will chime in with more on this matter.

If you would like to try some of each. I would be glad to give you enough for 1200 bullets. Let me know.

I use it in IBS score. It goes on easier than WS2 and serves the same purpose...more shots between cleanings and easier cleaning when you do.

A disadvantage vs WS2 is, because it goes on almost clear, you have trouble telling when you have a good coat of it.

Use the finer stuff disolved in 90% alcohol to swab in a fully cleaned barrel. Use the coarser stuff to coat the bullets. I put it on in a vibratory unit. I would prefer a tumbler, I think.
