CONGRATULATIONS JASON!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I had to shout! Congratulations to our own Jason Baney,JB1000BR) for his impressive win in the Heavy Gun class at the Williamsport World Open, shooting nothing less than a standard 6BR! That's with a no turn neck and no brass prep. Impressive indeed!

Now Jason, the big question is why you didn't shoot the 6BR in Light Gun too???????

Way to go Jason!

Danny

No brakes allowed in Heavy Gun, so Jason shot his unbraked 6BR in that class while using his .284 in Light Gun.

Here's Jason's 6BR. He was using a stout loud of RL15 with CR 106s, jammed.

Let me be the first to ask,on this thread at least), what is with the 90 degree out of plane scope mount?

No doubt there's a reason for this - I'm intrigued.

BTW - nice stock - identical to the one I have :D

CONGRATS TO JASON INDEED:

I had been corresponding with Jason on his success with his 6BR and RL-15 in competition so that I could "go to school" on his personal experience when applied to my 6BR prone gun. Well Jason, I guess you answered all my questions with a BIG victory.

I will shoot my prone gun at a 1000x3 at Ft. Benning Georgia this coming weekend -- guess what load I will be using.

Thanks for all your help, and mighty fine shooting!

OK guys. Seen the pictures, now some questions. What about that stock? Good looking! Could that be a A5L from Joel Russo? No matter. Sure looks nice! Mike.

Jason did great! Also, one more example of the little 6BR doing well at a thousand yards... Wow... Nice shooting JB!

The 90-degree rotation is really a smart trick for shooting long-range at a single known distance. The parallax control is rotated to the bottom, since once that is set, you won't need it anymore. Likewise, windage is more likely to be changed than elevation, so it is right on top where the numbers are easier to see and Jason doesn't have to "reach around" with his loading hand to get it.

It's not a solution for all situations, but it obviously works for Jason at 1K.

Actually, the windage adjustment becomes the elevation adjustment and vice versa. But now the windage know is on the left side where it's easier to see for right-handers.

Hmmm. If Jason's Leupold LRT is like mine, when you rotate the scope 90 degrees counter-clockwise, as shown in picture, the elevation turret, pink cap) is on the left,at 9 o'clock), and the windage turret is TDC at 12 o'clock.

Yep, but now the elevation turret moves the reticle in the horizontal plane and the windage moves it in the vertical, so they swap roles.

Wow!

Thanks guys.

As to why i didnt shoot it in light gun...didn't think it would do that good  Thought the 284 was GTG, but appears going to 1X fired brass instead of virgin knocked me out of the node :,

RE: turned scope...parallax is no problem to change, there is enough room to get at it...i use it from 200-1000 no problem. I swapped the turrets so the knobs read correct, thought the Windage moves opposite what it says...but that was fixed with a little dremel engraving bit and a sharpie, blacked out the "R" and engraved an "L" :D

Congrats on your win, Jason! :) Always great when one of the 'good guys' comes out on top! :thumb: -Al

That scope trick would F**K me up. I just know I would turn the top thinking I am going for elevation...wahoo an 8!

Here is a question. Looking at the World Open list...it seems that the heavy gun has more smaller calibers than the iight gun class. Okay you can't brake a heavy rifle, but hell...you can make it 100 pounds.

Why is that?

RHINOUT!

Jason:

I just thought of something . . . haven't you won EVERY match you have entered with your BR . . . except for one egg shoot where you had problems? You and the Lowrider are smokin!

Jim Hardy

Jim -- No, I have shot 2 normal matches at w-port during my carbon issues...had vertical. Other than that, yea, i lost one g-hog shoot cause i couldnt find the middle at 500yds during some NASTY mirage...

Now I'll throw the NF I won on the lil'br,have JUST enough weight to do so :D ) and see if the trend continues.

JB

Congratulations....Jason....good shootin....good to see someone who isnt intimidated by the big guns,30cal mags. etc.)at 1000...
What primer are you using....and what action and bases and rings are those ...I cant tell from the pic,,I need to get out more often!!haha))...also what bbl and twist and FB...just curious...might want to try sumthin like that one day..,wink)//....Roger

Thanks guys!

Roger -- most of your Q's are answered in the GOTW...Rings were TPS with the 50x leupy, and Ken farrell on the 1" sightron...

GAM - I was not brushing at all for first 400 rds or so--wet patches and WipeOut only. I am now BRONZE brushing. 1 patch of JB paste scrubbed in the throat and full length ~10 times knocked out the carbon and dropped the velocities back where they should be.

[Editors' Note: Jason's experience suggests that a no-brush/minimal brush routine may work for an extended period, but then you have to go in there more aggressively. David Tubb, who uses moly) will go hundreds of rounds between cleanings, but then he will clean down to bare metal.]
