Confession

I have gone and done it. I have sucked an innocent soul into the world of never good enough accuracy.
My younger brother wanted to build a 284. I texted him and told him to call me and talk so I could guide him on actions, twist, barrels, etc.
He wanted to put a Stiller Predator into a benchrest stock. I said that will be an odd duck that is not what a benchrest guy or a tactical/hunter will want if you go to sell it.
I asked what he wanted to do with it, and he is leaning toward a competition benchrest gun.
I said well , I happen to know of a benchrest gun built by one of my favorite people ,Stick Starks, with a total of 20 rounds on three barrels ,with two bolts built on a Panda F class,in A Robertson stock, and a Jewel trigger .While I can usually resist anything except temptation,I could find no excuse to buy it myself. I know, I should have bought it myself just to save him from being consumed by the accuracy bug , but I failed him and he is headed to Dallas tomorrow .
I sincerely hope my sister in law can forgive me .

I have a Stiller Predator, single shot on a MBR stock, chambered in Dasher with 20 moa rail, jewel trigger. Stock has a few chips, but I'd be willing to let it go.
Alex Wheeler has put his touch on the timing with the trigger.

I think you did a good thing. Imagine how his wife would feel if he built a rifle and it was not what he wanted and had to build a second or a third? Then the scopes to go with them!

You should be ashamed! I caught that disease and there is no known cure! I'm never happy after shooting because I always think I should have done better.

I saw the rifle at the shoot also. You really need to see it. It needed to be bought and shot. He the right thing just dont tell the wrong people.

Me and my brother-in-law shot some together, he bought ruger American 308, and rock chuncker kit, i keep telling him, as he was asking me all kind of questions on reloading and accuracy, that the rabbit hole goes deep if you start down it. Well RA lasted about 6 months and about 300 bullets later he decided he was never going to be happy with it. Bought FN spr, among other things, my sister said she was ready to plug that rabbit hole.

The first thing you should have taught him was how to keep the price of shooting equipment a secret. He will learn the hard way and you will take the beating! Lol

It really is the never ending story... And T-shooter I couldn't agree more.. sometimes I will pull a target and others at the bench would love to group like that but it is never good enough anymore... I watch people do the wrong things in everything from rifles to reloading thinking throwing money at it will cure their problem... Just try and tell them that... Wrong components etc from drinking the cool aid... I watched a guy yesterday bang a half a box and was grouping 5 inches he asked me to try..

The scope was so out of focus I couldn't tell one bullseye from another , the rifle wouldn't function because the gas block had slipped (AR15 .308 platform) it hadn't been oiled in a year... I fixed everything , oiled it , set the scope , fired twice , two bullets touching... Grabbed my spotting scope and had him hitting the bull everytime in 3 shots.. The smile on his face was worth the hour or so I spent with him.. he was a novice but smart enough to accept help... Just like me..lol

Let's not forget that with all that 'laying around money' he can now be sure no shyster will steal it from him. And he is stimulating the economy too.

Darrel gets a sick thrill from leading others into the abyss
Yes , Mike knows the deep down truth. I am really not sorry.
I am already trying to talk him in to coming down to my house so we can work up loads and l can lead him astray on how to turn necks, anneal, trim ,etc.
I am sure I will spout off about barrel harmonics , powder charges, seating depth, and neck tension until his eyes roll back in his head and he begins seizing.
But then, when we go down into the garage and he whacks that steel coyote at 500 yds like there was nothing to it,he will know that all is right with the world.

I disagree. At least with a gun addiction, you have something to sell after you're cured.

Even better...since you are related if he falls from grace and needs to sell, in a real way he has bought your gun for you, depreciated it on his dime, and when he needs to sell it, you can do him the favor of "paying him more than it is worth" just cause you are his buddy. ;)
