Concave base bullets

Just curious, as I bought some Don Jones 6mm 68 gr concave base bullets off the marketplace and shot some in my 6 BR. Mr Jones is 80+ yrs old so i suspect these are old. Using N133 i'm already shooting groups in the twos. Never saw this design before and was wondering if anybody can share any history on this design and were they ever popular.

The Remington 22 cal, 50 and 55 gr PLHP bullets utilizes this design. Some years back I bought some and they shot very well in a stock 223 SPS 700.

Blackhole bullets use this design. I've not personally used them but heard excellent reports on accuracy.
