Competitive shooting for the disabled

I am a high-level quadriplegic with little movement in my arms and hands, but not enough to shoulder a rifle. Consequently, I shoot using a custom-made rig,http://jimmace.com/main/default.aspx?p=outdoors ). Anyway, I was wondering if anyone would know where I can find information on competitive rifle shooting, benchrest, silhouette, etc. for people in my situation. I contacted the NRA, but they do not have anything for individuals in my situation... :-,

Thanks in advance,
Jim

Jim,
I don't know of ny competitive shooting that you could use your set up in. The rules would keep you from qualifiying. You could attend a few matches and observe how they are set up and run. Maybe you could shoot informally for the fun of it. Most rules say you can't have mechanical triggers. You difinately would need help. If you can shoot from a regular benchrest you would be halfway there. But you would have to manually trip the trigger and cycle the action and reload another round. Sorry for the ramblin....just thinkn an typing.

100-200 unlimited should allow the use of anything,I think its a 10 shot group game...i hope someone else steps in here that can tell you for sure.....lw

LW,
IBS and NBRSA rules don't allow mechanical triggers. You should go over the Benchrest Central to pose your questions. I shot benchrest matches for a few years....hard work and a little gratifieing too. I highly recomend you attend one to see what you are up against. Benchreast Central

Hello Jim,

Perhaps I can assist you in finding some help. I work at Sinclair International, and I am a disabled shooter, courtesy of Polio. I do not have the issues to deal with that you do, but you might want to contact the folks at the following contact information to see if they can offer some assistance to you.

National Wheelchair Shooting Federation

I hope that they will have something that can be useful for you.

Cordially,

Heck Jim

Where do you live? We have monthly club matches at my home range in Denton Texas. We'll allow anything so long as it's safe. Our club matches are un-registered so we don't have to follow the NBRSA or the IBS rules.

Twice per year we also host a NBRSA two day match. I couldn't guarantee it but I'd bet that you could come to the match and be dis-qualified for rule violations but still be allowed to shoot the matches. You just wouldn't be allowed to win, offically).

There's also a postal match that's run by LW and Liz Moore where you shoot your targets and mail them. This is done on the honor system. You can get details on "Bench-Talk.com." Because of a work situation, I haven't shot the postal matches this year but I like them because they feel like real compitition when I start shooting.

To be perfectly honest, I enjoy our Sunday club matches better than I do the whole weekend registered matches. The club match is just more laid back. By the end of a entire weekend of non-stop shooting, I'm usually beat.

I also agree that you should post on Benchrest.Com. There may be club matches in your area that are un-registered.
