Competitive shooters think this handloading technique/step is a waste of time

What process do competitive shooters NOT use or think is silly that precision handloaders,non-competitors) feel is mandatory?

For example, I understand competitive shooters do not reuse brass. Why? It is already fireformed...

I have heard competitive shooters are not that interested in case prep to the extent of non-competitors, e.g., brushing inside case mouth.

Why do competitive shooters full-length resize each reload? I understand it is not necessary...

Perhaps it would help if you would clarify what venue of 'competitive' shooter you are talking about? Benchrest, F-Class, High Power Rifle, tactical, 3-gun, action pistol, trap... ;) you get the idea. Some sports have some quirks that make some processes advantageous that might not be relevant in another.

You seem to have picked up on some misinformation. The best way to find out what "competition shooters" are doing is to attend a match and observe. By doing this and, asking questions, you will best be able to see, first hand, how the shooters in that dicipline are "doing it". Match schedules are posted on this and, other sites pertaining to the various types of competition.

That is sound advice...I am in San Antonio and of the competitions I am aware of, they are in the Dallas and points north...I better suck it up and take a drive.

I am a total neophyte at shooting other than my personal hunting application. Benchrest appears the closest likeness to shooting out of a hunting stand. F-class, High Powered, etc., is total Greek to me...

Parsing your post, yes, I have most likely absorbed some incorrect assumptions...it has been fun learning, but more like sipping out of a firehose.

This sight appears to be one of the quality ones that individuals wish to share their experiences and help another...I like it!

Blackbrush, You are so wrong there are many "competitions in your area. Look for and find the ranges near you and attend a "match".Look at Benchrest.com and here to find a match near you. And ask a lot of questions.

Great! I think I am getting somewhere...

I checked Benchrest.com calendar section and found nothing in TX.

I just checked IBS and there is no state chapters in TX. I checked their Long-Range Match Sked...nothing. Their IBS Group OR Score Matches...same-same.

I have checked NBRSA and clicked on Texas and the page will not and has not displayed for over a month.

If any of you have any patience left, point me in another direction and give me an electronic kick...and I will head in that direction. Or, better yet, attach a link that has a TX source.

Thanks guys!

There is a bechrest club in Tomball, north of Houston. I don't know where to find any info about it. As for long range and F-Class, there's Bayou Rifles in Houston.

If you ask about shoots in Texas over at BR Central you will get plently of answers. There are 3 or 4 clubs holding short range BR shoots in Texas.

I think they have something in Austin. Well, if it's the Austin Rifle Club, it's east of Manor actually.

Like NVTHG said, just make a post over on BR Central. You'll find someone.

I am a 1K not a point blank guy but there are different places to shoot in Texas---except 1K. The closest is Auora, Mo and Raton for me. Hopefully, someone will build a IBS or a NBRSA 1K range here. Diesel is getting very expensive!!

You just need to learn to shoot from your belly! Then you'd have a lot of choices in TX.

Central Texas Benchrest Shooters Association is located at Dietz's range in New Braunfels. The first club match of the year is March 30. Show up early and stay late. Ask for me, Ray Moore, and I'd be happy to introduce you around and get your questions answered. Stick around after we finish up and I'll let you shoot my rifle setup.

I shoot HBR and short range BR. For HBR I shoot a 30-47. I push the shoulder back, trim, neck turn, uniform primer pockets, flash holes and then trim again. I am using Win 300 Savage brass. For BR, I shoot a 6 PPC. I expand the 220 Russian brass from Lapua, turn the case necks. Fireform and go shooting. Depends on brass on what prep needs done.
