Compare Weaver T36 and Sightron 36 Big Sky

Been using a Sightron 36x Big Sky and think I want a new scope. Biggest complaint is the critical eye relief and face placement. How does the Weaver T36 compare, eye relief, optics, clarity, durability, tracking and turrets? Used for working up loads at 200 and 300 yards, so I have trouble justifying a > $1000 scope, even the Sightron III 20-50X is a stretch.

I fully realize that you get what you pay for in glass. Just trying to find out if the Weaver is a step up, or am I shooting myself in the foot..... again!.

No , Sightron Big Sky is the better of the two SII36x42, definetly better than Weaver T36 in glass department ,T36 compares by a coin tos to much cheaper Sightron SII36x42 non big sky model, more from one scope to another than from one brand to another.

The best in class and resonablly priced is Valdada IOR 36x42 Competition , but that is a quantum leap over Sightron or Weaver in all aspects but weight , http://www.valdada.com/36x42-30mm-sf-benchrest-competition-scope/

Thanks, that was kind of information i was looking for. How does the new Sightron III 10-50 compare to that group? Is the Valdada 36X that much better quality that it outperforms the 10-50X Sightron III? The Valdada is European, is there any problem with repair or customer service? Never seen a used one offered for sale. $1200 is hard for me to justify for my use.

Bill, there's a Valdata for sale in the classifieds. Wants a lot less than $1200 (which won't buy a new one anyway) but there would be no warranty since it goes to the original owner (just got this from Bart Sauter who sells them new).

Yes IOR Valdada is superior to SIII 10-50x60 as well ,more importantly its also going to track and hold POI , while 10-50x60 was never a pearl in that department. 30y warranty is not tied to original pruchaser.

IOR Valdada was used to win BR Super shoot and is edging out, the top dogs like March scopes , its not really comparble to entry level scopes like Sightron or Weaver , as for service All three are non US(Sightron Weaver are made in Japan) so besides minor fixes all need to go overseas for any mayor repairs.

Dennis, I sent you a PM Bill

Bill, I answered your PM.

micmac,

To change out the reticle on my Sightron it's a 10-day turn around and the scope is shipped to NC for the work. I doubt that Sightron would send it off to Japan and get it back to me in 10 days, and not for the $135 quoted, including return shipping. I got this info from Customer Service at Sightron. And Bart Sauter (US retailer for Valdata) told be in a PM that the warranty goes to the original owner; perhaps he's talking about the US warranty. I'll check out a Valdata at ARC this month if one of the Houston shooters brings his. As for holding POI, I've not had any issues in over 5000 rounds, at least at 100 yard VFS shoots where I've won a few matches.

I agree the price point for Sightron is simply to low for overseas Service trips ,they rather give you a new scope. I know Sightron does have a custom shop in US

IORs i have have all came with factory 30y warranty card ,but i dont see any case or text for that to be limited to 1st owner only.

In any case Sightron/Weaver are not even close to the same league as IOR Valdada.
